This is part 4 in a 4 part series about why I decided to straighten my teeth again, 20 years after having metal braces, and how I am doing it for less than $1500.00. You can catch up with my story here, here, and here.
After the initial 10 sets of invisible aligners finished up (7 months of treatment) my teeth weren’t straight. I had been wearing the aligners for 22 hours a day and doing everything right! It isn’t always an exact science and one tooth was especially being stubborn. In fact, set #10 didn’t fit my bottom teeth at all. It was about 2 months before I was on track again with my new aligners. There was a lapse in communication with customer service. I also needed to send in new impressions and wait for a treatment plan for the next 10 sets (which they sent free of charge).
I didn’t receive a lot of contact from my patient care representative from this point forward like I had in the past. No e-mails checking up on me or requesting progress photos even after I called and asked to be set up with a representative again. By the time one contacted me I had been switching out the sets every 2 weeks on my own and was almost done with the process. I believe the company was going through a name change and any miscommunication and delay may have been due to that.
I still notice some shifting happening when I take my retainers off in the morning until when I put them back on at night. So it’s really important to wear them religiously because those stubborn teeth are not wanting to stay in place on their own! I am going to wear my retainers during the day for quite awhile—just to make sure that my teeth are set!
Bottom line: I straightened my teeth for under $1500 from home without a single visit to the dentist! Was the process perfect? No, but the results were what I was hoping for. Would I go through SmileDirectClub again? Yes. Would I recommend them to my friends? Yes.
It really is a great alternative to the leading invisible aligners that my dentist offered me. And a great option for those, who like me, have already had metal braces and need minor adjustments after twenty years.
Here’s a side by side…
Disclosure: Almost 10 months after first hearing about SmileDirectClub I had saved up the money and was ready to make my purchase. Before I finalized everything I decided to contact them to see if they would be interested in having me share my story as I go through the process. They graciously agreed and gave me a percentage off of my treatment plan in exchange for a series of posts that will end when my treatment ends. I was prepared to purchase my 10 sets of invisible aligners even if they did not offer the discount.
