Bright and colorful summer themed cupcakes with a tangy twist! These lemonade cupcakes with DIY popsicle lollipop toppers are what summers are made of! Thank you, Wilton, for sponsoring this creative kitchen project!
My girls are at the age where they are able to follow simple recipe and project instructions and  love the independence of being able to make their own goodies and crafts! These cute lollipops are the best of both worlds. Crafty and delicious!
Wilton has created an entire line of one-time use DIY-Lish Kits that include step-by-step instructions and ingredients needed to create your own project. They were designed for everyone!
We were immediately drawn to the colorful Lollipop Candy Making DIY-Lish Kit and all agreed that it would be so fun for summer!
They each made a batch of popsicles and we put them on top of cupcakes, but they are darling to make and eat on their own as well.
Wouldn’t these make fun party favors for a summer get together, wrapped in a cellophane bag with ribbon?
If you are going to make a summer themed cupcake you definitely need to frost it with LEMONADE FROSTING. This frosting is so delicious and is actually made with lemonade. Keep reading for the yummy recipe!
Lemonade Cupcakes With DIY Toppers
The Lollipop Candy Making DIY-Lish Kit came with everything we needed to create our popsicle lollipops.
The step-by-step instructions were easy for the girls to follow. I grabbed my camera to capture the process, but they ultimately made these pops on their own!
They filled the 3 bags with pink, yellow and orange Candy Melts candy. Then they microwaved them, according to the instructions, until they were nice and smooth.
The included bags were just the right size to fit all of the Candy Melts needed for the lollipops and made for easy clean up later on.
We found the included instruction card super helpful because it gave the girls fun ideas for designing their popsicles! They made striped, solid, and two-toned popsicles.
The kit also included mini popsicle sticks! The candies hardened quickly and the girls popped them right out of the molds.
You can totally leave them like this, but they decided to add a few finishing touches with the sprinkles that came in the kit.
They added a bit more melting candy and added a few sprinkles!
And just like that we had a dozen popsicle lollipops to share with friends!
Now it’s time to make cupcakes!
The lemonade frosting is super tangy, just the way we like it, so there’s no reason to use a lemon cake mix as well. We baked up a batch of white cake mix cupcakes and let them cool.
Then we piped on our lemonade frosting! This frosting recipe will frost 16 cupcakes if you pile it on like we did. If you are a bit more conservative you can get a full batch. Our cake mix made 22 cupcakes.
