In our last installment of Captain No Beard stories, I shared about Captain No Beard. The captain of the ship, the Flying Dragon, and leader of his fearless group of shipmates: First Mate Hallie, Mongo the Monkey, Linus the loudmouthed lion, and Fribbit the floppy frog.
Once the children in the book board Alexander’s bed their world is transformed into a magical vessel, sailing the seven seas on dangerous and exciting adventures! And he takes his place as their leader, but it isn’t an easy job. Just as my oldest helps his young siblings with their adventures, Captain No Beard helps his young crew with pirate definitions, to the assignment of chores, to knowing how to fearlessly survive in the face of a terrible storm.
And now there is another fun book in the series! Pepper Parrot’s Problem with Patience: A Captain No Beard Story. I think these stories are just plain fun for kids. And not only fun, but they teach a great message.
In this volume, Pepper the Parrot is having a hard time learning the drills. Not knowing her right from her left, she gets frustrated and throws a temper tantrum (so glad I have never dealt with this with my own children 😉
Hallie, another shipmate, offers to help Pepper learn the difference between the two. By patiently spending time with her, she is able to teach her a trick, she is able to build confidence in Pepper and her sadness disappears.
This is a situation that all children can relate with. My little gal is learning to tell the two apart as she learns to play piano. Pepper’s triumph over her problem and learning patience is a great message to children.
The author of this fun series, Carole P. Roman is a teacher, turned business woman. Her favorite job is being a grandmother to her grandchildren. After her first book Captain No Beard received rave reviews she decided to continue on with the series and I am so glad she did!
