Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp. yeast
  • 3 3/4 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons oil

Pretzel Bath

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup baking soda

Toppings

  • extra kosher salt to sprinkle on wreath
  • 1/4 cup melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  • Watch my step by step video before braiding the dough for a better visual.
  • Dissolve yeast in the warm water in a small bowl or cup. Let sit for a few minutes.
  • Combine flour, powdered sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add water/yeast and vegetable oil. Stir with a spoon and then use your hands to form the dough into a ball.
  • Knead the dough 5 minutes on a lightly floured surface. Dough will be nice and smooth when it's ready. Place the ball of dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and place it in a warm place for 1 hour or until the dough doubles in size.

  • Divide dough into 4 equal sections.

  • Roll each section into a 26" rope. It'll take a little while to do this since, just keep working with the dough. It WILL eventually stretch out.

  • Cut a 4" piece off of the 4th rope and set that piece to the side. Shape the rest of the rope into a bow.

  • Wrap the small piece of dough around the center of the bow, pinching ends together in the back.
  • Press bow onto wreath, pushing down hard to help the dough stick.

  • Mix warm water and baking soda together in a large bowl. Carefully dip wreath in bowl just until submerged. Hold onto the bow so that it doesn't fall off.
Allow excess water to run off.

Notes

If you want the cinnamon/sugar coating, brush baked pretzel wreath with butter and sprinkle a heavy coating of cinnamon/sugar onto the entire surface of the pretzel.
