My girls and I had fun making these washer necklaces this week. They are so easy and the fact that the nail polish dries nice and shiny is pretty neat too! Just think of all the fun way to customize them. A $.12 washer from Home Depot, inexpensive nail polish, and something to string it on is all you need!

You can paint layers, letting them dry in between, or if you are impatient like us, paint it all while it is wet. We added dots to some, blobs to others, and also made some swirly ones. Those were fun. To get the swirly affect, use a toothpick and drag through all of your colors. For the one above I used alternating colors of white, but, and orange in stripes, then swirled through all of them in a circular motion.

I made 30 kits to send to our church summer camp for girls. I am not able to attend this year so I made a quick how to video to show them before they leave. I hope they have fun making these cute washer necklaces!

I just let the dot drop off the end of the nail polish brush. 🙂

I'm thinking about using this idea at our upcoming ladies retreat at church. My husband is going to beat them with a ball ping hammer so I think the designs will look great painted. Possibly add a charm or even a small washer. The possibilities are endless

Can you use that finish that dries like a glass bubble over the dried polish?

Hi Pam! I haven't tried using that before. The nail polish holds up really well, but it might be worth trying a few to see how they turn out with the clear coat. You're referring to an epoxy coating right?

Hi Judi, great idea! I'd use at least 3/4" washers.

Hi Sue! I don't. The nail polish drys with a shine and stays on perfectly!

Just the front, but I guess it's up to you! If you painted the back you could wear it either way. 🙂

My ladies club, average age 70, love to do crafts, but they are not very good at it. I will have them do these and I think they will love them.

I love that idea. These really are easy to make. And if they don't want to paint a washer, they can do their nails and visit with everyone! 🙂

What kind of cord did you use? Did it have a clip or was it just tied? Thinking of making these for our shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child.

Hi Shauna! That's a GREAT idea. We went and picked up our boxes today for Operation Christmas Child so that we can get started. For the washer necklaces, I just tied a knot. I used colored hemp for the cording. Hope that helps! Here is a link to what I used, but I bought mine at Walmart. They had a variety of colors for about the same price. http://amzn.to/2ej1KFY

Cute necklaces! I used to use nail polish to paint all kinds of things, but I never thought about using it to paint washers for necklaces. Great idea!
