Ultimate Sprinkles Cookies
Who doesn’t love sprinkles? They just make everything happy. Especially cookies! Our sprinkle sugar cookies are loaded with colorful sprinkles and are just plain fun. They start with a buttery snickerdoodle cookie base (minus the cinnamon and sugar) and are rolled in sprinkles before being baked. The sprinkles give them a nice crunch, while still being chewy and soft on the inside.
My kids love these cookies and they are perfect to package up and deliver to a friend for a homemade birthday gift!
Sprinkles Cookies Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter (room temperature)
- 1/2 cup shortening*
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 8 oz. container jimmies rainbow sprinkles**
*I like using a 50/50 combination of butter and shortening in my sugar cookie recipes because I think it gives them the best texture, but you can use all butter if you’d like.
**I prefer using jimmies sprinkles vs. nonpareils sprinkles. The colors stay vibrant even after baking and don’t bleed.
How To Make The Cookies
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium bowl, cream butter, shortening, and sugar with an electric hand mixer or stand mixer. Beat in eggs.
In a separate bowl whisk flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt together.
Combine flour mixture with wet ingredients.
Scoop cookies, using a medium cookie scoop, then roll in sprinkles, making sure to cover the entire ball of cookie dough. Pat down cookie dough balls slightly then place on baking sheets lined with parchment paper (I usually bake 6 cookies per sheet). Watch our video to see exactly how I shape and roll my cookies.
Bake for 10-12 minutes.
Allow cookies to cool for 3 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside, and oh so colorful! This recipe makes 30 cookies. Store cookies in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
