Homemade salsa doesn't get any easier than our blender salsa recipe. Restaurant quality salsa made at home with basic ingredients! Serve with warm tortilla chips or our baked taquitos! This recipe was originally shared in 2012 and now includes a video.

Our go to date night stop is Three Amigos, a local Mexican restaurant. Like most Mexican restaurants, they bring out hot chips and homemade salsa as soon as you sit down at the table. Our blender salsa recipe tastes just like the salsa from Three Amigos and is SO easy to customize to your liking.

    Blender Salsa

What is blender salsa? It tastes fresh, but differs from  Pico de Gallo because you used canned tomatoes instead of fresh. Everything is put into a blender and pulsed until smooth. It really is that easy.

    Blender Salsa Ingredients

The ingredients are simple and can be customized to create mild, medium or hot salsa.
    • Canned tomatoes: you can use crushed, diced or whole tomatoes---they're all going to end up blended so it doesn't matter. I like using ROTEL which is a blend of canned tomatoes and green chilies.
    • Onion
    • Jalapeno: use 1-2 jalapeno peppers. If you like spicy salsa, leave the seeds in. If you prefer more of a mild/medium salsa remove the seeds. I use 1 jalapeno with seeds when I make blender salsa.
    • Lime Juice: fresh or bottled
    • Cilantro: stems removed
    • Cumin
    • Salt
    • Sugar: you can omit this if you want, but I highly suggest leaving it in. It balances out the salsa beautifully.

If you have an awesome blender you can just give everything a rough chop before adding it to the blender. If your blender needs a bit of help to get things going you can dice your ingredients beforehand. We have a Ninja blender and it works great for making salsa.

This recipe makes about 5 cups of delicious salsa that will stay fresh up to 7 days in the refrigerator.

    Equipment

    • blender

    Ingredients

    • 28 oz can of Rotel (diced tomatoes and green chilies)
    • 1 small onion roughly chopped
    • 1-2 jalapeno peppers roughly chopped (with or without seeds*)
    • 3 Tbsp. lime juice
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • ½ teaspoon salt
    • ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
    • 1 c. cilantro leaves

    Instructions

    • Put all the ingredients in the blender and pulse to combine. Serve with tortilla chips.

    Notes

Leftover salsa can be stored in an air tight container in the refrigerator up to 7 days.
*Leaving the jalapeno seeds in the salsa will create a spicy salsa. For a mild salsa, scoop the seeds out before adding the peppers to the blender. Always be careful when cutting peppers to wash hands and avoid touching your face.

Hi everyone! Brandy here, and this salsa is the real deal. So yummy and tastes like restaurant salsa. The kind you eat and get full off of before you even get your food, haha. Stores good too.

This looks so good! I'm sitting here trying to figure out a chicken dish for this week's menu plan -- one that I haven't completely overused -- and voilà! You're a lifesaver!

      I'm stealing this! Thanks!
