Homemade Pretzel Wreath
The most requested bread recipes in our home are my garlic Parmesan breadsticks and homemade pretzels. My kids can’t get enough! This pretzel wreath is a fun variation, and SO easy to make. We even added a bow, and I’ll show you how to do that!
My wreath was inspired by The Food Nanny. Her brother was on insta-stories (they didn’t save to a highlight so I can’t link to hers) the other day showing one that he had made. They used a different recipe, didn’t have a bow, and had fresh cranberries on the wreath which was a cute touch. Theirs appeared to be smaller as well, but it doesn’t matter. The process is the same—you simply braid the dough.
I made one for my family and made sure to take step by step shots of the process. Ready to make your own? Let’s get started!
How To Make a Pretzel Wreath
(scroll down to the end of the post for a formatted recipe card to follow)
Ingredients
- water
- yeast
- flour
- powdered sugar
- oil
- salt
- melted butter
- kosher salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- Make dough according to the instructions in the recipe card at the end of the post.
-
Divide dough into 4 equal sections.
-
Roll each section into 26″ ropes.
-
Braid 3 of the ropes together.
- Bring ends together and pinch to secure.
- Cut a 4″ piece off of the 4th rope and set that piece to the side. Shape the rest of the rope into a bow.
- Wrap the small piece of dough around the center of the bow, pinching ends together in the back.
- Press bow onto the wreath, pushing down hard to help the dough stick.
- Mix warm water and baking soda together in a large bowl. Carefully dip wreath in bowl just until submerged. Hold onto the bow so that it doesn’t fall off.
- Allow excess water to run off.
- Place wreath on a greased baking sheet. Sprinkle with kosher salt.
- Cover and let rise in a warm place 30 minutes.
- Heat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Bake for 12 minutes, turn pan around, then bake an additional 10-12 minutes. Wreath should be golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter as soon as the wreath comes out of the oven.
Buttery Pretzel Wreath Recipe
Pretzel Wreath Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cup water
- 1 Tbsp. yeast
- 3 3/4 cup flour
- 3/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons oil
Pretzel Bath
- 2 cups warm water
- 1/4 cup baking soda
Toppings
- extra kosher salt to sprinkle on wreath
- 1/4 cup melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- Watch my step by step video before braiding the dough for a better visual.
- Dissolve yeast in the warm water in a small bowl or cup. Let sit for a few minutes.
- Combine flour, powdered sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add water/yeast and vegetable oil. Stir with a spoon and then use your hands to form the dough into a ball.
- Knead the dough 5 minutes on a lightly floured surface. Dough will be nice and smooth when it's ready. Place the ball of dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and place it in a warm place for 1 hour or until the dough doubles in size.
- Divide dough into 4 equal sections.
- Roll each section into a 26" rope. It'll take a little while to do this since, just keep working with the dough. It WILL eventually stretch out.
- Braid 3 of the ropes together.
- Bring ends together and pinch to secure.
- Cut a 4" piece off of the 4th rope and set that piece to the side. Shape the rest of the rope into a bow.
- Wrap the small piece of dough around the center of the bow, pinching ends together in the back.
- Press bow onto wreath, pushing down hard to help the dough stick.
- Mix warm water and baking soda together in a large bowl. Carefully dip wreath in bowl just until submerged. Hold onto the bow so that it doesn't fall off.Allow excess water to run off.
- Place wreath on greased baking sheet. Sprinkle with kosher salt. Cover and let rise in a warm place 30 minutes.
- Heat oven to 400 degrees F.
- Bake for 12 minutes, turn pan around, then bake an additional 10-12 minutes. Wreath should be golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter as soon as the wreath comes out of the oven.

Recipe worked out and looked amazing out of the oven. 4 stars since I would use much less sugar if I were to make it again–my hubby and I both thought the dough was too sweet.
