Pretzel Wreath Recipe For The Holidays (Video)

Jump to Recipe

A delicious, buttery, pretzel wreath for the holidays. Homemade pretzel dough is braided and sprinkled with kosher salt then baked and brushed with butter. You’re going to LOVE this pretzel wreath!

If you like this recipe, you’ll love our homemade pretzel bites and pretzel rolls. They are both variations of this same recipe! You might even like our candy cane shaped bread, filled with cherry pie filling and drizzled in icing!

Homemade Pretzel Wreath

The most requested bread recipes in our home are my garlic Parmesan breadsticks and homemade pretzels. My kids can’t get enough! This pretzel wreath is a fun variation, and SO easy to make. We even added a bow, and I’ll show you how to do that!

My wreath was inspired by The Food Nanny. Her brother was on insta-stories (they didn’t save to a highlight so I can’t link to hers) the other day showing one that he had made. They used a different recipe, didn’t have a bow, and had fresh cranberries on the wreath which was a cute touch. Theirs appeared to be smaller as well, but it doesn’t matter. The process is the same—you simply braid the dough.

I made one for my family and made sure to take step by step shots of the process. Ready to make your own? Let’s get started!

  • Press bow onto the wreath, pushing down hard to help the dough stick.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup water
  • 1 Tbsp. yeast
  • 3 3/4 cup flour
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons oil

Instructions

  • Watch my step by step video before braiding the dough for a better visual.
  • Dissolve yeast in the warm water in a small bowl or cup. Let sit for a few minutes.
  • Combine flour, powdered sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add water/yeast and vegetable oil. Stir with a spoon and then use your hands to form the dough into a ball.
  • Knead the dough 5 minutes on a lightly floured surface. Dough will be nice and smooth when it's ready. Place the ball of dough into a lightly oiled bowl, cover it, and place it in a warm place for 1 hour or until the dough doubles in size.

  • Roll each section into a 26" rope. It'll take a little while to do this since, just keep working with the dough. It WILL eventually stretch out.

If you want the cinnamon/sugar coating, brush baked pretzel wreath with butter and sprinkle a heavy coating of cinnamon/sugar onto the entire surface of the pretzel.
