Chocolate covered OREO cookie stacks are easy to make and are so festive to give as gifts or treat yourself! Just as delicious as anything you’d find at a chocolate shop or bakery.

Covering things in chocolate is one of my favorite things to do. Exhibit A: chocolate frozen bananas, Exhibit B: S’mores mix, and Exhibit C: Chocolate peanut butter pretzels. These chocolate-covered Oreo cookie stacks are just plain fun! They make great gifts, and birthday party treats, and are fun for kids to make. Kind of gourmet, kind of not—they’d be perfect at a bake sale. Who doesn’t love Oreos?

I covered mine in white chocolate, but these would be delicious covered in any variety of candy melts or chocolate. Maybe chocolate mint cookie stacks or lemon Oreos covered in white chocolate? The possibilities are endless!

Oreo Cookie Stacks

So what is an Oreo cookie stack? I’ll tell ya! Each stack is made from 3 cookies, individually covered in chocolate then stacked. As the chocolate hardens they become one glorious treat. Cupcake liners make great packaging for these treats and catch crumbs as you eat them. These treats take just minutes to make. Let’s get started!

How to Make Oreo Cookie Stacks

  1. Line a baking sheet with wax paper or parchment paper.
  2. Melt chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in a double boiler or in the microwave. Candy melts melt beautifully in the microwave so I usually go that route, but you can use whatever method you are most comfortable with.
  3. Dip an Oreo into the melted chocolate. Flip over with a fork. Lift cookie and tap fork against the side of the bowl to allow the excess white chocolate to drip off.
  4. Place the cookie onto the baking sheet.
  5. Repeat the dipping process with a second cookie, and place the second cookie on top of the first.
  6. Repeat with a 3rd cookie.
  7. Sprinkle on toppings such as sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, nuts, or candies.
  8. 12 oz. of chocolate is enough to cover 27 Oreos, making 9 cookie stacks. Allow cookie stacks to harden then place in muffin liners.

Tips for Melting Chocolate

Slow and steady wins the race! Do NOT overheat the chocolate.

Double boiler: When I use this method I typically use a saucepan with an inch or two of water and a glass bowl that fits snugly on top. The water should NOT be high enough to touch the bowl. Heat chocolate in the glass bowl until smooth and melted. This method is a great option if you’ve had bad luck melting chocolate in the past. A double boiler prevents the chocolate from burning and heats it evenly.

Microwave: microwave chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds. Stir. Heat in 15-20 second increments, stirring in between until chocolate is smooth and melted.
