Texas sheet cake is one of my favorite desserts to make for a crowd. I’ve been making Your Home Based Mom’s Texas sheet cake recipe for years, with a few adaptations. It’s quick, it’s easy, and it easily makes 32 servings. I love the classic chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, but swapping it out for my homemade peanut butter frosting? Um, yeah. It’s incredible.

For an added touch I sprinkled mini buckeyes all over mine. The ultimate Buckeye chocolate peanut butter sheet cake. You’re welcome, Ohio friends!

Funny story: We lived in Ohio for 4 years. It was the first time that either one of us had lived in the Midwest so we really knew nothing about Ohio or college football. We kept seeing OSU flags, bumper stickers, t-shirts, and quickly realized that we had moved to a college town (Columbus, Ohio). The thing that puzzled me was the OSU mascot. What the heck was it? I thought it was a monkey. My husband thought it was a bear. It wasn’t until we had lived there for a couple of weeks that we found out that it was a buckeye nut. Ha! Brutus Buckeye. Derrick’s coworkers thought it was hilarious when he told them.

Buckeye candies are found everywhere in Ohio, and for good reason. They are SO yummy! If you don’t have access to these (I found mine at a cute country store here in Virginia), you can use mini Reese’s cups. Yum.

I’m now looking for an excuse to go and pick up a few more packages of these. I’m thinking that Buckeye ice cream would be amazing this summer. How about you?

Are you ready to make your own?

The chocolate cake bakes up in 30 minutes.

Once the cake comes out of the oven you can get started on the whipped peanut butter frosting. This frosting is delicious on cupcakes, sugar cookie bars, and so many other things!

frosted chocolate peanut butter sheet cake

Traditionally, you’d frost a Texas sheet cake while it’s still hot, allowing the frosting to melt like ganache. I think this peanut butter frosting is yummy with more of a whipped consistency so I let my cake cool first, but you can do whatever you’d like.

After it has been frosted, sprinkle with 1 1/2-2 cups of mini buckeyes.

How long does it take to make chocolate peanut butter sheet cake?

30 minutes of baking time, 30 minutes of cooling time, plus 15 minutes of prep time for a 75 minute cake.

How many servings are in this chocolate peanut butter sheet cake make?

32 slices of sheet cake.

Can you frost the sheet cake while warm?

Yes, you can frost directly out of the oven and let the frosting melt and set up. I do this with chocolate frosting, but prefer to let the cake cool before frosting with peanut butter.

I don’t have Buckeyes. What other candies can I use for this Buckeye sheet cake?

Mini Reese’s cups, Reese’s Pieces, a mixture of peanut butter chips and chocolate chips, or any other chocolate peanut butter combination would be delicious!

This kid knows a good thing when he sees it. Anyti This kid knows a good thing when he sees it. Anytime my camera and tripod go up, he’s right there waiting. Today we made our favorite green smoothie. It’s all about balance—-just kidding. We all know that’s a lie. I have like 10 healthy recipes on my site and 800 breads and desserts. 😂

Tip: when buying produce, buy extra to freeze. I buy an extra pineapple, an extra package of grapes, an extra bunch of bananas and an extra bag of spinach and freeze them for smoothies. I slice everything up and freeze it on baking sheets then bag it up. It makes it easy to grab a handful to toss into a blender. You can freeze entire bags of spinach too and add a handful to smoothies. I always blend my spinach and water first then add the rest of the fruit. No little spinach chunks in the smoothie that way. 🙌🏻

Tomorrow is all about gingerbread cookies for Sant Tomorrow is all about gingerbread cookies for Santa (although the Santa who comes to our house prefers sugar cookies. He can share these with Mrs. Claus). Ruby has them all picked out—-gingerbread boys, gingerbread girls, and ninja-bread cookies. Should be fun. Had to go out and get more molasses and it wasn’t easy to find! Everyone else must be making gingerbread, too!

My 9 year old decorated most of the cookies that you see in this photo. I taught her how to use a piping bag, a star tip, and a round tip last year and she hit the ground running. Check out our stories for 6 cookie tutorials for kids using the same frosting tips!
