I love the flavor of cinnamon. Every year when we make gingerbread cookies I make sure to grab a bag of red hots cinnamon candies. You simply can't make gingerbread cookies without adding a bit of icing and a few cinnamon red hots on top! The rest are saved for making red hots frosting. So delicious!

Easy Way to Shape Sugar Cookies
Scoop cookies, using a medium cookie scoop, onto ungreased baking sheets. Roll each scoop of cookie dough into a perfect ball using your hands.
Dip a glass in sugar and press down on each cookie dough ball to flatten.
These cookies will puff when baked, so make sure to really press down. I like pressing down until the edges come up over the side of the jar. See the video for a great visual.
These sugar cookies bake up in just 10 minutes. Let them rest on the baking sheet for 3-5 minutes then transfer to a cooling rack.
While the cookies bake, make the frosting.
Add cinnamon red hots candies into a food processor. Blend until it resembles coarse sand.
Combine the rest of the frosting ingredients in a bowl and beat until smooth. Stir in red hots candies.
Frost cooled cookies with cinnamon frosting. This recipe makes 3 dozen delicious cookies!

I don’t understand what the lemons are for with the Red Hot Sugar Cookies. It said that we would need them but not what we were supposed to be to do with them. Thanks so much. I can’t wait to try this recipe.

I cloned my lemon sugar cookie recipe and changed a few things to create this one. Must have missed that sentence. Thanks! No lemons necessary for these cookies!

could you melt the red hots for a smoother texture rather than crush them up?
