Peanut Butter and Honey Cheerio Bars

My kids are little creatures of habit, and I remember being the same way at the same age. They come in the door after school and go straight to the kitchen for a snack. These bars are the perfect after-school snack and are easy to make!

These peanut butter bars are super easy to make and can be made with honey nut cheerios or original cheerios. They remind me of my Grandma’s Scotcheroo recipe, but with far less sugar.

Peanut Butter Cheerio Bars! A delicious after school snack made with peanut butter, honey, a bit of sugar, and Honey Nut Cheerios™! Sprinkle with mini chocolate chips if you're feeling crazy.

Ingredients

Our Peanut Butter Cheerio Bars have peanut butter, honey, and only 1/2 c. mini chocolate chips. You can make them with Honey Nut Cheerios or Original Cheerios. Because they don’t have a lot of sugar, they are softer in texture instead of hardening to a granola bar-type firmness. I compensate by firmly pressing them into the pan and refrigerating them until firm.

How To Make No Bake Peanut Butter Bars

Simply combine 1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter, and 1 c. honey in a saucepan on med-low heat. Stir until combined and creamy.

glass measuring cup of cheerios
Pour in 6 c. of Cheerios and stir until everything is coated evenly.

Line a 9×13″ baking dish with parchment paper and press mixture into pan FIRMLY.  If some of the Cheerios break, that’s totally fine. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and gently press the chocolate chips into the mixture.

Note: you can easily make a smaller batch by halving the recipe and pressing the mixture into an 8″x8″ square baking dish.

Hi Tandra, thanks for the feedback! I did notice a type-o. It should read 1/4 cup of sugar instead of 3/4. So I’m glad you left a review because I went right away to double check the ingredients after your comment. With using Honey Nut Cheerios, the recipe might still be too sweet for your taste though. As far as being crumbly, I pack them down super tight in the pan, even breaking some of the Cheerios as I go to keep them nice and firm when they come out again, but there are always a few Cheerios that fell off during the cutting process.

I make these with puff cereal but I don’t add sugar or chocolate chips. The honey sweetens it enough for my taste. I use 2 cups of PB and 1/2 cup honey. I have made them as bars and they do not fall apart, but I have also used a melon scoop and made cookie shapes.

These came out well and the kids love them but they are much stickier than I anticipated. Do you store them in the fridge?

Hi Sarah! I put them in the refrigerator while they set up, but my 5 kids ate them so quickly that there was no need to store them afterwards.

I store mine in the fridge, otherwise they get too soft and fall apart.

I just made this recipe for the first time. I made a few changes and they came out great. I used almond butter instead of peanut butter because my boyfriend prefers anything that isn’t peanut butter. Because of the extra oil from the almond butter I put 1/8 of cup more honey in the recipe. They did turn out a bit sweet, so I think next time I will use regular Cheerios and omit the sugar. Otherwise, this recipe was delicious. My picky eater boyfriends said they were dank, which is an ultimate compliment from him.

    Thanks for posting the recipe.

So glad they turned out delicious! They are definitely sweet so using regular Cheerios is a great idea!
