Favorite Green Smoothie Recipe

Green smoothies are made of a variety of fruits and veggies. The key is to keep the color scheme simple, otherwise you risk drinking a brown smoothie, haha. Stick to yellow and green produce.

How To Freeze Fruit For Smoothies

I don’t like adding ice to my smoothies unless I have to. Frozen fruit blends beautifully and adds a nice chill and frostiness to your smoothie. You can purchase frozen fruit to keep on hand, or freeze your own!

Slice fruit and place on baking sheets, lined with parchment paper. Freeze for a few hours then bag in ziploc freezer bags. By freezing your fruit this way, it won’t stick to itself and you can easily grab a handful to add to your smoothie.

My kids like snacking on frozen fruit (especially grapes!)

How to Freeze Spinach for Smoothies

Did you know that you can freeze spinach? It’s super easy! Just place the entire bag or package in the freezer, no need to separate it on a tray first. I keep my spinach in the refrigerator until the expiration date and then, if I have any left, I’ll place it in the freezer. I like using fresh spinach best, but frozen works as well!

Frozen spinach should only be used for smoothies or dinners where it is meant to be heated. It will not thaw and be usable for salads.

How To Make a Green Smoothie

ninja blender cup with green smoothie

I love that my blender comes with 2 to-go cups. I simply unscrew the blender cap and add a to-go sip cap!

Step 1: Blend a large handful of spinach with 1 cup of water.

Tip: blend water and spinach first THEN add the fruit. This creates a smooth green base to add your fruit to. No spinach chunks—yay!

Step 2: Add 1/2 of a banana (fresh or frozen), 2-3 slices of frozen kiwi, 1/2 cup frozen pineapple, and 8-10 frozen grapes. We like adding mango too (1/2 cup) I just didn’t have any on hand when I made the one pictured above.

Blend until smooth.
