Make viral Ritz Bits Freckles with mini peanut butter Ritz Bits, almond bark, and sprinkles! An easy, no-bake twist on chocolate-covered crackers.

You might also like Ritz Rolo turtles, homemade nonpareils (Sno Caps candy), or white chocolate peanut butter truffles.

Have you seen the viral trend for Jatz freckles? The original Australian-inspired trend uses Jatz crackers to make a sweet-and-salty treat. I made my own version using mini Ritz peanut butter Bits, and they're just as fun to make!

If you love easy treats like my 3-ingredient Twix bites, you'll want to add these chocolate-covered Ritz Bits to your list. They're perfect for holiday dessert trays, or whenever you want a quick sweet-and-salty snack.

    Why You'll Love This Recipe

    • Inspired by a viral TikTok trend. Make your own version of the popular chocolate-and-sprinkle cracker treat at home.
    • Only three ingredients. Mini Ritz peanut butter Bits, almond bark, and sprinkles are all you need.
    • No oven required. Melt the almond bark in the microwave and assemble the treats on your countertop.
    • Sweet, salty, and crunchy. Chocolate, sprinkles, and peanut butter crackers make a fun flavor combination.
    • Perfect for parties. Use different sprinkle colors for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions.
    • Makes a big batch. One box of mini Ritz Bits makes approximately 90 treats.

    Tips and Tricks

    • Use a shallow tray. This makes it easier to distribute the sprinkles and assemble the treats.
    • Work in small batches. Melted almond bark sets as it cools, so prepare only as many as you can assemble comfortably at a time.
    • Shake the tray between batches. This redistributes the sprinkles so you can continue using them rather than wasting what's left.
    • Use about ¼ teaspoon of chocolate per treat. This provides enough chocolate to hold the sprinkles and cracker together without making the treat too thick.
    • Replenish the almond bark as needed. You don't have to melt all of it at once.
    • Let the chocolate harden completely. This makes the treats easier to handle and store.
Box of peanut butter crackers, almond bark and container of non pareils sprinkles.

    Ingredients

    • Mini Ritz peanut butter Bits: These little sandwich crackers provide the salty, crunchy base and a peanut butter filling.
    • Almond bark: Use white or chocolate almond bark. It melts easily and sets up firm once cooled.
    • Sprinkles: Pour the sprinkles onto a shallow tray or plate so they're ready for assembling the treats.

See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.

How to Make Ritz Bits Freckles

    Sprinkles poured onto baking sheet.

Step 1: Prepare the sprinkles. Spread the sprinkles in a shallow tray or on a plate. It may seem like a lot of sprinkles, but you won't use most of them, you just need a nice layer.

¼ teaspoon dropping melted white chocolate onto tray of sprinkles.

Step 2: Melt the almond bark. Place two squares of almond bark in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in short intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and melted. Work with one square at a time if you prefer, replenishing the chocolate as needed.

Step 3: Spoon on the chocolate.

Spoon approximately ¼ teaspoon of melted almond bark over the sprinkles for each treat.

Hand adding crackers to the tops of drops of melted chocolate.

Step 4: Add the Ritz Bits. Gently place a mini Ritz peanut butter Bit on top of each portion of melted almond bark. Press lightly so the sprinkles adhere to the chocolate without squeezing out the filling.

Spoonfulls of chocolate added to tray of sprinkles.

Step 5: Repeat. Once you've made a batch and the chocolate is set, gently shake the tray to redistribute the remaining sprinkles. Continue spooning on melted almond bark and adding crackers until you've used the box of Ritz Bits.

One of my favorite things about simple treats like these is how easy they are to customize.

    • Christmas Ritz Bits Freckles: Use red and green melting chocolate and festive holiday sprinkles.
    • Halloween Ritz Bits Freckles: Decorate with orange, purple, and black melting chocolate and sprinkles.
    • Valentine's Day Freckles: Use pink, red, and white melting chocolate and sprinkles.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Are Ritz Bits Freckles the same as the viral TikTok freckles?

They're inspired by the viral trend for cracker-based chocolate freckles, which uses Australian Jatz crackers. My version uses mini Ritz peanut butter Bits and almond bark, with a different assembly method.

Do Ritz Bits Freckles need to go in the oven?

No. The almond bark is melted in the microwave, then spooned over the sprinkles. The crackers are placed on top, so there's no need to heat them in the oven.

Can I use white or chocolate almond bark?

Yes! Both work well. White almond bark makes the colorful sprinkles stand out, while chocolate almond bark gives the treats a more traditional chocolate flavor.

How many Ritz Bits Freckles does this recipe make?

One box of mini Ritz peanut butter Bits makes approximately 90 treats, depending on the size of the crackers and how much chocolate you use.

How should I store Ritz Bits Freckles?

Store them in an airtight container in a cool, dry place until you're ready to serve them. Keep them away from direct sunlight and heat so the chocolate stays firm.
