Slow Cooker Chocolate Lava Cake (Video)

This slow cooker chocolate lava cake is ridiculously easy to make and so delicious! Made with a cake mix and chocolate pudding. Serve with vanilla ice cream!

If you like molten lava cake you will love this slow cooker version! Nothing beats a warm serving of gooey chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top! There are only a few desserts that I make in my slow cooker, and this one is my favorite. spoonful of chocolate lava cake in slow cooker The chocolate cake sets up around the edges and has pockets of gooey chocolate pudding throughout the center. plate with lava cake and scoop of vanilla ice cream Our favorite way to eat it is with ice cream, but Cool Whip would be delicious too.

Chocolate Lava Cake In a Slow Cooker

Ingredients:

  • 1 box Betty Crocker Super Moist Chocolate Fudge Cake Mix
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup oil
  • 1 1 /4 cup water
  • 1 box (3.9 oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ cup semi sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips

Directions

Step 1: Spray your 5-6 qt. slow cooker with non stick cooking spray then crank the heat to HIGH while you prepare the cake batter. Cover with lid. This is important! You are giving your cake a head start in the cooking process. Allow slow cooker to preheat for 15 minutes. Step 2: In a large bowl mix cake mix, eggs, water and oil with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes. Pour batter into slow cooker. Cover with lid. Allow cake to start to heat while you prepare pudding. Step 3: Mix pudding mix and milk in a medium bowl and beat until smooth. Pour mixture over cake mix (all around, not just in the center). Do not stir. unbaked lava cake in slow cooker with chocolate chips sprinkled on top Step 4: Sprinkle with ½ cup semi sweet chocolate chips. slow cooker with paper towels under lid Step 5: Cover slow cooker with a layer of paper towels. This will help prevent condensation from dripping onto your cake during the cooking process. slow cooker set to low heat Step 6: Add lid. REDUCE HEAT TO LOW. Cook 2 ½-3 hours. baked lava cake in slow cooker This is what your cake should look like when you remove the lid after 2 ½ hours. Set up around the edges with pockets of gooey pudding throughout the center. If your edges aren't set up you can cook the cake an additional 20-30 minutes on LOW. serving of chocolate lava cake on white plate Spoon onto plates and top with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipping cream. Ingredients

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup oil
  • 1 ¼ cups water
  • 1 box instant chocolate pudding (3.9 ounce)
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ cup semi sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Spray slow cooker with non stick cooking spray. Add lid. Set heat on HIGH to preheat for 15 minutes..
  • Mix cake mix, water oil and eggs in bowl with mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Pour batter into slow cooker. Cover with lid.
  • Combine pudding mix and milk. Beat until smooth.
  • Pour pudding over cake batter in slow cooker. Do not stir.
  • Sprinkle with chocolate chips.
  • Add a layer of paper towels over slow cooker then place lid on top. The paper towels will soak up moisture on lid and prevent it from dripping onto the cake.
  • Reduce heat on slow cooker to LOW and cook for 2 ½-3 hours.
  • Remove paper towels.
  • Cake should be set around the edges and gooey throughout the center.

Notes

  • For best results, allow the slow cooker to preheat on HIGH for at least 15 minutes before adding the cake batter.
  • Avoid removing the lid during the cooking process to allow cake to retain heat.
