I finally got around to taking some photos of the baby doll baskets that I made the girls for Christmas. These were so much fun project to make and are the perfect baby doll accessory. I had a great time choosing the fabrics and putting them together. A couple of late nights sewing, but it was all worth it! What toddler or little girl wouldn’t want a baby doll basket of their own?
These baskets are the perfect size to tote around their little bundle of joy whether it’s a small stuffed animal, an itty bitty baby doll, toys, or in Kaylee’s case, a Build a Bear Dog, “Fluffy”. They fit tiny dolls all the way up to 19-inch stuffed animals (might be a tighter fit, but the Build a Bear sized animals fit just fine).
Each one is made with layers of cotton and includes a pillow, blanket, squishy handles, and the mattress pad fits perfectly inside. Each fabric basket is finished off with bias tape which is a colorful and sweet touch. Each one is made with layers of cotton and includes a pillow, small mattress, blanket, squishy handles, and is finished off with bias tape which is a colorful and sweet touch.
I love classic homemade projects like this one. I am thrilled with the results and the girls are thrilled too.
When Dana, from MADE, shared her baby basket pattern (click the link to go to her site) I knew I had to make some for the girls.
I seriously stalked her website until she did and was probably the first one to buy it! It was very well made. Pattern making seems mind boggling so I’m grateful for those who share their talents with the rest of us! So head to her site to purchase this darling pattern.
I don’t receive any compensation or kick back from referring people to this pattern. It’s simply one that I made and love and know that you will too. These baskets are truly such an heirloom project and the perfect place for kids to keep their precious baby doll. I’m sure someday I’ll revisit this little basket pattern to make for my grandchildren.
Fabrics were purchased from Joann’s. A small floral print are perfect for the lining and give it a vintage feel in a heartwarming way. A small satin pillow would be so fancy and fun, too! You’ll need fabric, batting, bias tape, coordinating thread, and a sewing machine.

On Dana’s site there’s three sizes. How big are the sizes? I wanting one to fit a 14-16inch doll? Which size do you think would be the best options?
Brandy says
SMALL: fits dolls and toys 12-14 inches
MEDIUM: fits dolls and toys 14-16 inches (such as “Bitty Baby”)
LARGE: fits dolls and toys 16-18 inches (such as “American Girl” or “Our Generation” dolls)
I made medium ones for my girls, hope that helps! 🙂

I saw the Baby doll basket at your side five days before christmas and i fell in love with it?
I thought it would be perfect for my little 6 year old daughter.
And as I thought it was the best gift alhough she got even a nintendo for surprise?
Our middledaughter 12 Years old wants to have one too☺.
My question is did you sew the little doll with the Brown hair? She is so cute!
Much greetings from Germany! Sylvia

That is so nice to hear! Homemade gifts really are the best! I did not sew the little doll. It is actually the little doll from the “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” movie and we found it at Target at Christmastime for a few bucks. She is so cute! I’m not that great at making dolls 🙂

If you were wanting to make one for a real baby she was premature bout a month old would the large size be enough or could i add to it
Brandy says
It’s perfect for a 15” doll/teddy bear so probably not big enough. I’m not very skilled at adjusting patterns so I’m afraid I’m not much help. I’m sorry!
