Cotton + Steel “Cheerio” Quilt

Filed Under: Craft Tutorials, Sewing Tagged With: Home Decor Sewing

 cotton steel cheerio quilt

This quilt was a labor of love for my ever growing boy, Dallin. I made quilts for the kids’ birthdays last year and finished them all in time except for his. I told him I’d make his eventually, and he was ok with that. 5 months later it is now draped across his bed, and he loves it! I do too. He has always loved the color blue…hence the mass amounts of it in this quilt!

 Cotton and Steel Cheerio Quilt

I made it slightly smaller than the pattern. There are 35 (11.25″) squares of alternating Cotton + Steel fabrics mixed with some solids as well. The “cheerio” styled quilts have always seemed very vintage and homespun and I love that look. It’s funny how switching up the color palette can change the quilt. This seems much more modern and geometric with the darker colors.

The first night he had it on his bed he said, “This quilt feels so good!” I’m glad that he loves it.

Boys Bedroom Update
I hope it sees many, many years of cozy nights and travels with him.

Fabric: Cotton + Steel

Pattern: Cheerio Quilt from Thimble Blossoms

This kid knows a good thing when he sees it. Anyti This kid knows a good thing when he sees it. Anytime my camera and tripod go up, he’s right there waiting. Today we made our favorite green smoothie. It’s all about balance—-just kidding. We all know that’s a lie. I have like 10 healthy recipes on my site and 800 breads and desserts. 😂

Tip: when buying produce, buy extra to freeze. I buy an extra pineapple, an extra package of grapes, an extra bunch of bananas and an extra bag of spinach and freeze them for smoothies. I slice everything up and freeze it on baking sheets then bag it up. It makes it easy to grab a handful to toss into a blender. You can freeze entire bags of spinach too and add a handful to smoothies. I always blend my spinach and water first then add the rest of the fruit. No little spinach chunks in the smoothie that way. 🙌🏻

This cutie is working on a hat for her big brother This cutie is working on a hat for her big brother for Christmas. We love this little set of round knitting looms. A great project to work on during Christmas break. She’s making herself a pink one after Christmas. We bought several colors of bulky yarn at Walmart for $2.97 each. Each skein makes 1 hat. Tomorrow is all about gingerbread cookies for Sant Tomorrow is all about gingerbread cookies for Santa (although the Santa who comes to our house prefers sugar cookies. He can share these with Mrs. Claus). Ruby has them all picked out—-gingerbread boys, gingerbread girls, and ninja-bread cookies. Should be fun. Had to go out and get more molasses and it wasn’t easy to find! Everyone else must be making gingerbread, too!

Gnomes and llamas made their way to our Christmas Gnomes and llamas made their way to our Christmas cookies this year and I’m wondering why we didn’t use them before! So cute ($1 at Target). My 9 year old decorated most of the cookies that you see in this photo. I taught her how to use a piping bag, a star tip, and a round tip last year and she hit the ground running. Check out our stories for 6 cookie tutorials for kids using the same frosting tips!
