These Grinch ornaments make me smile. I just love how different each one turned out. I made the white one, then Ruby and Mac made the yellow and blue ones—and let’s be honest, they blew it out of the water.
That little face on the yellow ornament is so dang cute! Reminds me of the Grinch when he was a child in the movie. These thumbprint Grinch were SO easy to make. Add a name and date on the back and it’s a darling little keepsake to hang on the Christmas tree.

I ordered most of the supplies from Oriental Trading. I originally planned on painting the eyes onto the ornament, but these colorful ones worked out even better!
Supplies
- wood ornament cutouts (the ones that I used are out of stock. I’ll update once inventory changes)
- acrylic paint
- paint brush
- mini Santa hats
- colorful craft eyesÂ
- permanent marker
- baker’s twine

How To Make AThumbprint Grinch Ornament
Thumbprint Grinch Ornament
Equipment
- paint brush
Instructions
- Paint ornament with acrylic paint. Note: this is optional. The natural finish on the ornaments looks great, too.
- Dip thumb in green acrylic paint. Press horizontally onto ornament.
- Repeat, only pressing vertically. Let paint dry completely.Tip: use a blow dryer to speed up the drying process.
- Glue hat and eyes on.
- Add mouth details using a permanent marker.
- String with ribbon or baker's twine.
