Cooking with kids is messy! Heck, cooking in general can be messy. This is why it's fun to find a recipe that is easy to make and requires very few dishes. This Halloween bark is just that. It would be perfect paired with sherbet monster punch for a mad scientist party.

    Why I Like This Recipe

    • Easy for kids to make. Halloween bark takes minutes to make, and kids can easily make a batch of Halloween bark with minimal assistance.
    • Fun to customize. Make it any color you like! I especially like ours because it is green. And not just any shade of green, but a vibrant shade of lime green. Add fun candy mix-ins and sprinkles to make it your own.
    • Simple ingredients. You'll need a bag of candy melts or almond bark, candy, and Oreos. That's it!

    Tips and Tricks

    • How to melt candy melts for dipping. It is essential to NOT overheat the candy melts, or they will burn. Microwave at 50% power or on defrost setting for 1 minute. Stir. Return to the microwave for 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until the candy is melted.
    • Cover the baking sheet with parchment paper. Parchment paper is one of my favorite kitchen tools since hardly anything sticks to it. It is important to line the baking sheet with parchment paper so that it is easy to remove the bark and break into pieces.
    • Choose mix-ins that won't soften. If you plan on eating this Halloween bark over the course of a week or so, choose mix-ins that won't go stale or soften. We used Oreos, which will stay crunchy for a few days, but will soften if stored longer.

    Ingredients

    • Candy melts: You can use whatever flavor and color you'd like. Some people like melting white almond bark and coloring it, but I prefer to not color chocolates if I don't have to. Wilton offers many different kinds of colored candy melts that are ready to go.
    • Oreo cookies: These are fun and easy to crush up and add to the bark. You only need 6-8 cookies.
    • Halloween sprinkles
    • Candy eyes
    • Candy Corn

I’m assuming that you added some food coloring, but it doesn’t state what color.

Hi Mame! No food coloring needed! You just use colored melting chocolate that you can find in most craft stores! I use the Wilton brand.
