A delicious and healthy treat! Crispy baked apple chips are easy to make and perfect for an after-school snack.

When your aunt calls and asks if you'd like to split a 100-pound box of apples, you say, "Yes!" I received 50 pounds, then split that with my friend, so in the end, I had 25 pounds of gorgeous apples for our family to enjoy. I branched off from my trusty go-to recipes, such as slab apple pie, easy homemade applesauce, and Instant Pot apple cider, and decided to make baked apple chips with my son in mind. He loves them!
Why I Like This Recipe
- Can be baked or air-fried. Apple chips can be made in the oven or air fryer, and I've included instructions for both versions. Baking them in the oven takes quite a bit longer, but it is my preferred method.
- Simple ingredients. Considering that apple chips are made from, you guessed it---apples, they are a simple, healthy snack! I like adding a sprinkling of cinnamon and sugar to mine, but apples are sweet enough on their own, and you can skip the sugar if you'd like.
- Easy to make. If you can slice an apple, you can make these baked apple chips. This is a foolproof recipe that yields perfect results every time.

Apple Chips Tips and Tricks
- Slice apples evenly. Having thin, even slices is important for even baking. I like slicing my apples ⅛" thick (for both baking and air frying). A mandolin works well if you have one. If not, just use a sharp knife. I have a mandolin attachment on my slicer, but it only has one setting and produces paper-thin slices. These work well too, I just have to keep an eye on the baking time. A mandolin with adjustable thickness plates would be ideal.
- Allow apple chips to cool in the oven. Once baked, simply turn the oven off and allow the chips to cool completely as the oven cools down. They will continue to crisp up as they cool.
🍎Crispy Baked Apple Chips Ingredients

- Apples: For sweet apple chips, use Fuji, Honey Crisp, Gala, or Golden Delicious apples. For tart apple chips, use Granny Smith apples. For the best of both worlds try Pink Lady apples.
- Cinnamon and Sugar: This is optional, but it adds great flavor. You can skip the sugar and simply sprinkle the apple slices with a small amount of cinnamon if you'd like.
See the recipe card for full information on ingredients and quantities.
👩🍳 How To Make Baked Apple Chips

Step 1: Slice 2 apples into thin, ⅛" slices.

Step 2: Remove seeds by popping them out by hand or using the end of a sharp knife to gently pop them out.

Step 3: Lay apples in a single layer on baking sheets that have been covered in parchment paper.

Step 4: Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar (optional)

Step 5: Bake at 225 degrees for 2 ½ hours, flipping the apple slices over after 1 hour. Turn the oven off, but keep the apple chips inside the oven. The chips will crisp as they cool.
NOTES
- If you use a mandolin to slice your apples, they may bake more quickly. Flip them over after 30 minutes, then keep an eye on them after 60 minutes.
- To make more than one batch, rotate pans on baking racks midway.
⏲ How To Air Fry Apple Chips
Step 1: Only use one apple at a time. Slice the apple into ⅛" slices.
Step 2: Air fry the apple chips in a single layer at 350 degrees, flipping the apple chips over every 5 minutes or so. They will take about 15 minutes to cook and are done when the edges are curled up and the moisture is gone.
Step 3: Let the apple chips cool 15-20 minutes to crisp up.
Apple Chips FAQs
If sliced thin enough and baked long enough, the apple chips will crisp as they cool. They will still be soft when freshly baked, so give them some time. If after cooling, they still aren't crispy, place them back into the oven for an additional 10-15 minutes.
Yes! Only use one apple's worth of slices at a time and air fry the apple chips in a single layer at 350 degrees, flipping the apple chips over every 5 minutes or so. They will take about 15 minutes to cook and are done when the edges are curled up and the moisture is gone. Let the apple chips cool 15-20 minutes to crisp up.
Store in an airtight container for up to a week, although I'm sure they won't last that long.

Honeycrisp apples are the best! I went to an apple orchard last week and Honeycris season is over, but I bought some Jonathan and Fuji apples. Drying some sounds delicious.
