We had a lot of fun tie dying face masks last year. It was kind of a turning lemons into lemonade situation. If we had to wear them, might as well turn it into a fun summer activity for the kids. This year we decided to keep on the tie dyed accessories trend and made scrunchies and socks! I went to Michael's to pick up a few hot glue guns for a youth camp that I'm helping at and, of course, got side tracked when I saw the tie dye section. One thing lead to another, and by the time I left the store I had already texted a few moms to arrange a tie dye party for our girls, ha!

I LOVE how everything turned out! Tie dying is such a great activity for kids. It can be messy, but we'll share our tips and tricks for keeping things under control!

    white knit scrunchies

These knit scrunchies are perfect for tie-dying. You can find them on Amazon and at Michael's. They work well with any of the Tulip tie dye kits.

Socks are super easy to dye and these white ones worked perfectly!

pair of magic tie dyed socks

Have you seen magic socks before? These are SO cool. You cover them in dye and once the dye rinses off a fun design appears.

    Pretty cool, right?!

I picked up a space and mermaid themed ones for the girls. These fit up to age 8 or so. They also sell adult ones. These are only $5 at Michael's, and you can usually get an additional 20% off with a code.

    Tie Dye Kit

You'll also need a tie dye kit.I LOVE this one (got it for about $8).  It comes with so many colors and plenty of rubber bands. The gloves that come in these kits are hit and miss. I'd recommend buying a box of vinyl gloves for projects like this.

    Additional Supplies:

    • plastic table cloth
    • plastic wrap
    • water

Hi! Your stuff looks great and turned out really well 🙂 Do you really need the last step where you wash the scrunchies in the washing machine? Or can you just do the cold rinse to get all the dye off and then let air dry? I'm just wondering since I'm doing a party and sending instructions home for the parents, and if they don't need to wash I'd rather save a step especially since they are such small items. We are doing scrunchies, headbands, and a pencil pouch. I'm now consider those socks too, but not sure I can get them in time. Thank you in advance for your help!

If they REALLY rinse them well they might be fine!
