Snow Globe Marshmallow Popcorn Balls

Filed Under: Christmas, Kids in the Kitchen, Recipes

Marshmallow popcorn balls are a family favorite recipe all year long, but are even more fun when packaged to look like snow globes for holiday celebrations! And you don’t have to put them into snow globe boxes, you can wrap them in plastic wrap to look like snow balls! This post contains affiliate links.

I’m a sucker for cute packaging and love finding creative ways to package holiday treats! These little snow globe boxes were too adorable to pass up and I knew that they’d be perfect for our favorite marshmallow popcorn balls.

If you like rice krispies treats you will LOVE these popcorn balls. They are made from the same ooey-gooey ingredients: butter and marshmallows. I remember my mom and dad making these for us when we were kids. They were such a treat! Popcorn balls are so fun to customize. We’ve even shaped them into egg shapes and called them dinosaur egg popcorn balls. And if you’ve been here for a minute, you know how much I love those little finger puppets from Oriental Trading. We’ve never actually used them as finger puppets though, haha. Just cute little additions to holiday treats and crafts like our snowboarding polar bears, reindeer candy tins and Rudolph gift ornaments.

First you’ll need popcorn. One batch of air popped popcorn (1/3 c kernels) will do. You’ll also need butter and mini marshmallows.

Note: you can also use microwaved popcorn. About 2 bags.

Place marshmallows and butter into a microwave safe bowl and heat until gooey and smooth.

Pour over the popped popcorn and stir until covered completely. Now things are going to get a bit sticky. Covering a baking sheet with waxed paper is a great idea to save on clean-up later on. I like wiping a bit of softened butter between my hands, then start forming the marshmallow popcorn balls.

This recipe makes 8 popcorn balls and can easily be doubled, if needed.

I found these snow globe boxes in packages of 12 from Oriental Trading for $6 and the polar bear finger puppet figures in packages of 24 for $7.
