I went to a baby shower a few weeks ago and the new mom received a pack of decorative wash cloths for baby. They were so simple and sweet and I thought to myself, “I could totally make those!”
The baby wash cloths had been purchased from a boutique, but were simply made out of a wash cloth and a piece of flannel fabric. I loved that idea and thought my kids {and new baby} might like a set too!
These decorative baby wash cloths would make a great beginning sewing project for kids. They can design their own using their favorite fabric, or a make a set for a baby sibling.

The next time I was at Target, I picked up a pack of plain white wash cloths. You can get a pack of 8 for around $3.50.

Equipment
- sewing machine
- scissors
- pins
Materials
- wash cloth
- flannel fabric
- thread
Instructions
- Use a wash cloth as a pattern and cut out a piece of flannel.
- Pin the wash cloth to the fabric with right sides facing each other.
- Stitch around the edge, using a 3/8" seam, leaving a small opening to turn the cloth right side out.
- Turn the wash cloth right side out and fold the opening closed. Add a pin to close the opening.
- Top stitch around the entire wash cloth.
Notes
Easy gift idea: stack wash cloths, wrap with a ribbon and tuck a baby shampoo bottle inside.
I made a few darling blue ones for my boys, and a stack of pink ones for my girls.
