I LOVE these little finger puppets from Oriental Trading.  Last year I used the polar bear ones to make treats for Mac's church class. I also used the Rudolph/Santa ones to make ornaments and the reindeer ones to make candy tins. So fun!

The kids and I had a great time making our penguin ornaments to hang on the tree. Here's how we did it.

    Penguin Ornament Supplies

    • Model Magic
    • Terrarium Ornament
    • Penguin Finger Puppet
    • Mini Tree (Target Dollar Section)
    • Baker's Twine

These penguin ornaments for kids are as simple as forming the dough and placing the figures into it. Here are a couple of tips for success:

    1. Press a handful of model magic dough into the ornament. Press it against the bottom and have it come up on the sides just a bit. This will create a large and snug area for the toy figures.
    2. Press the figures into the dough. Take your fingers and press the dough up and around the base of the figures (as much as you can).
    3. Press the dough against the figures for a tight fit.

Model magic dries, but it takes a few days. You DO NOT need to let the dough dry before hanging the ornaments on the tree. As long as they are tucked in snugly, they will stay put and the dough doesn't shrink or change as it dries. You can always adjust a bit on day 1 or 2 if you need to.

    Notes

Model magic dough will dry in 2-3 days. You do not have to wait to hang the ornament. It will be stable right after making it if you tucked the toys in tight enough.
The little figure will stay in the dough without the need for glue (unless your child pulls it out). If that happens, just add a dab of craft or super glue. Ours have held up great without glue.
