    Organizing Kids Craft Areas

    April 10, 2014 By Brandy 1 Comment

    kids art desk

My kids are the happiest when they are busy making something, especially my girls. Their hands are always covered in marker ink and some sort of stickiness.
    kids art on walls
It warms my heart to see them cutting, pasting and coloring like crazy! I especially love how they've taken over the house with their projects. No longer is it enough to have their art projects on the refrigerator, they have started sticking them with scotch tape on the walls in the living room too.

    toddler climbing by craft cabinet

With each project comes a nice little mess as well. Up until recently I kept the majority of the kid's supplies in my craft box. When they went inside to grab markers, etc. they often helped themselves to other things like glitter. Oh, the joys of glitter. And there are so many other items that kids need storage for like legos, beads, loom bands, the list goes on. Lot of tiny little things that can easily be spread throughout the entire house.

    kids art table

I have NO problem with a messy craft room. A clean craft room means that crafting isn't going on, am I wrong? We just needed a separation of crafting supplies. They needed their own space instead of sharing mine. And not just a table with a basket stuffed with an unorganized mess of art supplies like I had been using, but an organized space where they could find everything they needed without rummaging through my things. Their art supplies took up so much space on the table that they didn't have room to actually work on it as well.

    kids art desk

My room was an absolute disaster. This is what 3 months of being too busy and just stacking things and not putting them away does. What started out as a "straighten up" in my craft room turned into a purge, 4 trash bags of donations and trash, and an even bigger mess. But after several hours of purging and sorting, it all began coming together. It felt so good to get rid of things I had been holding on to for far too long. If I hadn't used it since we moved into this house 2 years ago, it went into a donation bag. I was able to clear out space in the office closet and move things around to make room for their art easel and a new art table.

These pictures below were taken to showcase the new area. I straightened it up to avoid distraction in the pictures.  I do not expect it to always look this way. If it did, it would mean that they never used it and that would defeat the whole purpose of having it!

kids art desk with orange chair

Here are 5 things I've learned about organizing kids' craft areas:

    top of kids craft desk

    1. Kids need a safe place to create. Having their supplies within an arm's reach is ideal. Much more so than climbing up on a chair to get them out of a closet or my craft box.

    2. Keep clutter and items on work space to a minimum. I love their little Jack and Jill desk from The Original Scrapbox  because everything is within view, but not stored up on top. There are other ways to achieve this such as these duck tape art caddies that we made for our homework supplies. Using tin cans or plastic containers is another great way to store things at the end of the table while still allowing for plenty of space to work.

    3. Keep some things tucked away for a rainy day. My kids don't have access to every art supply we own anymore. I keep some things like play doh, extra stickers, stacks of paper and craft kits up in the closet and use them on rotation. This keeps things fresh and holds their interest. If everything is out then they quickly get bored and move on from one thing to the next, creating a disaster of mess of dried play doh and art supplies. Their desk is filled with  supplies and coloring books to keep them entertained for a long time. In a month or so I will rotate things out and it will feel like Christmas morning!

    4. Kids WILL want to display their work. The refrigerator just isn't big enough to showcase everything my girls want displayed. I've strung ribbon on the walls in their rooms with thumb tacks. Then they choose what they want to add to the ribbons with clothes pins. It is an easy and free way to showcase their work. And of course, when that gets full, they resort to taping things directly to the living room walls! They worked hard on it and want to show it off. I do sort and prioritize, but always after they are in bed and not watching. Some things we keep forever, some things are displayed for a couple of weeks and others don't last more than a day before getting tossed.

    5. Even the most organized spaces will get messed up. New spaces always start out nice and pretty, until they get used. And that is a good thing. It means that it was successfully set up for them to create!

How to you keep up with the insanity of your kid's creative supplies? Legos? Loom Bands? I'd love to hear your ideas!

    12 Gift Ideas For Baby

    April 9, 2014 By Brandy 1 Comment

I was asked to participate in Evite’s #EviteBabyTrends series. Although I have been compensated, all views are my own.

Today I'm sharing my favorite gift ideas for baby as well as a few top rated ones that I wish I had known about when my children were babes! I remember my mom commenting on how things had changed from when she had babies. Now I'm finding myself saying the same thing. It's only been 2 years since I had a newborn, but how did I now know about some of these things? So whether you are expecting your first, second, or third child, or are looking for a gift idea that has been found to be tried and true by other moms, I hope you will enjoy this collection of baby gifts that I have put together!

    Gift Ideas For Baby

    baby items for shower games

1: Basic Baby Care Products.  Diapers, wipes, baby care items for bath time. These are practical and always a hit. I loved having a nice supply of these items when my first baby was born. Especially since I wasn't sure which ones to buy! My mom friends shared their favorites with me and I loved trying them out and creating my own favorites. I love the Bedtime Bath Lavendar from Johnson and Johnson so that is one that I like buying for friends. It is nice to find out which brand of diapers the new mom prefers. I've received diapers that my kids were allergic to, but stores have a great return/exchange policy for diapers (unopened) so either way they still rank at the top of my list for a baby gift.

    diy onesies

#2: Onesies and Sleepers. Is there such a thing as too many onesies? Maybe, but it never was the case for me! These cute tie onesies were so easy to put together for my new nephew. He looked so darling sporting the blue one last weekend. Sleepers are so great because they are easy on and easy off. I especially loved the zipper ones. More than once, during a 2am feeding, I would mess up the snaps and laugh the next time I went to change my baby's diaper. Zippers were my friend during those crazy early mornings!

swaddling blanket for baby#3: Gauze/Woven Swaddle Blankets. Ok, WHERE were these with my babies? I love them and like buying them for friends. They are stretchy, lightweight and perfect for anytime of year. I love that you can tuck one in the car seat even on summer days. A little security without the extra warmth. These swaddle blankets come in so many fun colors and designs and are a perfect baby shower gift!

    baby blanket on fence

#4: A Receiving Blanket. Every baby needs his/her own special blanket. Even with 4 kids and a closet full of receiving blankets and quilts, I would make sure that each new baby had a new homemade blanket. Even if it was just a basic flannel one like the one in the photo. It doesn't have to be homemade, but if you would like to try one of these simple blankets you can find my tutorial here.  Just straight line sewing and with the flannel sales that Joanns does you can make two for the price of one store bought one.

    happiest baby cd music

#5: White Noise CD. Someone gave me  a soothing sounds CD these with my first baby. It had beautiful music, ocean waves, and other relaxing songs.  I fell in love with it! I would put it on and he calmed right down. Since he slept in our room, I grew accustomed to it as well and it helped me fall asleep faster! The Happiest Baby Soothing Sounds CD  from Dr. Harvey Karp is a little different than the one that I used since it is white noise vs. musical songs, but it's effects are the same. The sounds help calm and sooth baby for a good night's rest. I love that it has rhythmic womb sounds to help baby feel secure and close to where he/she spent the past 9 months. There are many white noise devices as well, but this CD is inexpensive and has great reviews!

baby carrier#6: Baby Carrier. I loved my mei tai baby carrier that I used with my girls. I purchased it from a lady who made and sold them on e-bay and it was perfect. There are so many different kinds now, ranging from inexpensive to quite pricey. I am not going to pretend to know all of the different kinds or which ones work best, but I do know that these are extremely practical and babies love them.

    baby in baby carrier

I still can't believe that my (now 5 year old) daughter was ever this small!

stack of baby books#7: Books! Just like there is no such thing as too many onesies, there is no such thing as too many books! My 2 year old's favorite book lately is the Pantone Colors board book. Each page is like eye candy, a bright and exquisite collection of colors and hughes.

    baby thermometer

#8: Thermometer. This temporal scanner thermometer is relatively new for my family. The kids were very happy with this investment. It is more accurate than any of my reading in the arm pit, under the tongue or with the ear thermometer. It would have been nice to have one of these with my babies.

    baby humidifier

#9: Cool Mist Humidifier: My poor children. When they get sick it goes straight to the chest. We have had a cool mist humidifier for years and between that and the VapoRub, it is how my kids survived cold and flu season. It is so scary when a baby gets sick and congested. This is one item that a new mom might not think about at first, but would be glad to have in the evening when her baby is trying to rest.

    leather baby shoes

#10: Baby Shoes. I know, I know. Babies don't NEED shoes, but who doesn't love how cute anything is in that tiny little size! EVERYTHING looks cuter when it is only a few inches long! I love these soft soled baby shoes with the elastic. I've purchased mine for years from this seller on E-bay (always under $10), but also learned how to make my own out of cloth using this tutorial.

    flannel baby shoes

I've made dozens and dozens of pairs for friends and family, and may or may not have made them to match every dress my first baby girl had!

burp cloths for baby#11: Burp Cloths. I always used the big packs of white cloth diapers (I think there were 12 in a package) for burp cloths. My sister in law let me in on that tip and I was forever grateful. They were so absorbent and perfect for mopping up spit up off of me! They were also nice and big with lots of coverage compared to many burp cloths that I had tried. These burpy bibs from Aden + Anais are genius. They offer the same amount of coverage, but are perfectly designed to stay put. A bib AND a burp cloth---all in one and they are made of muslin so the more you wash them, the softer they get. I am always amazed at what they think of next when it comes to new baby products.

    baby cd

#12: The Happiest Baby DVD. Dr. Harvey Karp created the Happiest Baby DVD and CD that I shared earlier. The Happiest Baby reveals a stunning new discovery...the calming reflex. It's almost an "off switch" for crying that all babies are born with. Within just days you'll boost your baby's sleep 1-3 hours every night. I took a peek on amazon and saw that it has almost 1,000  4.5 star reviews. I think this is one item that all new moms should have. And once again, where was this when I had my first baby?

If you are heading to a baby shower soon you can print off this couponfor a package of Huggies from Safeway to go along with your gift! A collection of baby shower games and activities to make hosting your next baby shower stress-free! Onesie station, rubber duck game, free printables and more! I was asked to participate in Evite’s #EviteBabyTrends series. Although I have been compensated, all views are my own.collage of baby shower activities

Favorite Baby Shower Games & Activities!

diy onesies and other baby shower activities

    Iron On Tie Onesies

I love creative baby shower games and activities. Some of my favorite baby showers had onesie stations. Collections of fabric markers, paints, or iron on transfers. Everyone decorates a onesie and the new mommy goes home with lots of spares to keep around for spit-up mishaps!

I set up this station using fabric pens and iron-on transfers that I made myself! These ties were so easy to make. For a baby girl shower, you can use a heart or flower shaped pattern, circles, or monogram letters!

    You will need:

1 package Dark Avery Fabric Transfers (5 sheets)

    Blank Onesies

    tie pattern

I simply printed these fun backgrounds in a 3.5" x 5" size  (4 to a sheet) on the iron on-transfer paper. Make a small tie pattern (I just folded a piece of paper in half and drew a basic tie shape on it then cut it out) and trace the tie onto your 3.5" x 5" rectangles.

    two diy onesies

Cut out and iron onto your onesies according to the package instructions! You can use 4"x6" rectangles of colors for bigger ties.

variety of colored fabrics for onesies

I am going to let you in on an awesome resource! Melstampz is such a fabulous Flickr collection of digital backgrounds! You can print them (for free) in pretty much any size, color, pattern, and design. You simply download the pixel size you want and save it to your computer. Then print it in the size you need. Each of her pattern collections has a rainbow of colors so you can color match ANY design you need. She just asks that you use them for personal use only and not sell them. You can use these backgrounds for digital scrapbooking, card making, and making printables!

    rubber ducks in cake pan

    The Rubber Duck Game

When it comes to baby shower games, this one is about as easy as they come. It's a carnival game turned baby shower game! The rubber duck game is a fun door prize game. Simply draw some stars on the bottom of a few ducks. As the guests arrive, have them turn over a duck. If theirs has a star they win a small prize!

Easy Dinner Ideas for the New Mommy

Every new mom could use some quick and easy dinner ideas! Freezer meals, slow cooker recipes, 30 minute meals. Send a couple of recipe cards inside each baby shower invitation asking the guests to bring their favorite go-to dinner recipe. Collect all of the cards and send them home with the new mommy/ mommy-to-be!

Click on each link below for a printable sheet (4 to a sheet).  I've created them in a variety of color schemes. You can also send a blank index card. Easy peasy!

    The Diaper Bag Game

I'm all about baby shower games that don't make me look like a fool. I know, I know, I'm a party pooper! Here is one of my favorite baby shower games that is a great ice-breaker and down right hilarious at times! We women know how to pack our purses. Have each guest fill out this checklist of the items in their purse or diaper bag. They get points for each item on the list. Don't forget to have them fill out the space for the "most unusual item" in their purse or diaper bag.  A dirty sock or forgotten sandwich, perhaps?

    Baby Shower Memory Game

Here is another baby shower game that I like. It is also another game that doubles as a great take-home gift for the new mom. Fill a large tray with a variety of baby care items: thermometer, onesies, shampoo, diaper cream, bottles, pacifiers, toys, books, etc.  Give each guest a piece of paper and pen. Have them number it to as many items as are on the tray. Let the guests view the tray for a minute or so and let them take a mental picture to see how many items they can remember in that block of time. Then take the tray away and put in another room while the guests quickly try to write down all of the items they saw. 15 items or so is usually challenging, but not impossible.

I've shared my ideas, now I want to hear yours!

    Lemonade Cupcakes

    March 28, 2014 By Brandy 4 Comments

    Lemonade Cupcake in wrapper

I've shared before that I love all things lemon. It is my favorite flavor and scent so, naturally, I use it a lot in my baking. These lemonade cupcakes are just that, a delicious lemon cupcake with a light and fluffy tart frosting.

    April Showers Baby Shower table

They went perfectly with my April Showers baby shower theme.

    cupcake stand with cloud cupcakes

I cut out cloud shapes on cardstock and taped them on toothpicks for easy cupcake toppers.

I always use boxed cake mixes. They are a great base to customize. Sometimes I add flavorings to switch up the basic mix or use butter instead of oil. This time I made a plain lemon cake mix, no alterations. The frosting/icing is made from only two ingredients. Whipped topping and lemonade concentrate. The idea of using lemonade concentrate came from my friend who added it to her frosting and made the most amazing cupcakes last year! It was genius. I don't care for frosting except for whipped topping. So that's why I used Cool Whip in my recipe. I use it whenever I can on my cakes. The result was a refreshing, delicious, light (as a cloud) cupcake.

    Lemonade Cupcakes

    bowl of lemonade frosting

    16 oz. tub whipped topping

    ½ c. lemonade concentrate (thawed)

Gently fold lemonade concentrate into whipped topping (¼ c. at a time, tasting in between for desired tartness). Keep chilled until ready to use.

Fill a large ziploc bag with whipped topping. Cut corner and pipe onto cupcakes. Frosts 12-18 cupcakes.

    cupcake on cupcake stand

This isn't the first time I've used lemons with baby shower desserts.

cupcake stand with raspberry lemon cupcakes

This dessert spread consists of lemon cupcakes with a lemon frosting and  filled with homemade lemon curd and min raspberry cheesecakes. If you haven't tried lemon curd before, you are missing out! It is absolutely delicious on shortbread cookies, as filling in cupcakes and spread on pound cake. All of the recipes can be found in my Lemon Raspberry Themed Desserts post.

    Felt Cloud Mobile Wall Hanging

    March 19, 2014 By Brandy 5 Comments

This darling cloud mobile would be fun to hang in a kid's room. It's a quick and easy project made from felt and so colorful!

You might also like our free soft-soled baby shoe pattern or fabric nursery basket pattern!

    Baby Shower Cloud Mobile

Coming up with a nursery and baby shower theme is fun. Coming up with the funds is the challenging part. That is why it is so much fun to create your own decor elements using inexpensive items. Like felt! Today I'm sharing the felt cloud mobile that can from my "April Showers Bring May Flowers" baby shower theme. The beauty of this project is that it can double as nursery decor as well.

    April Showers Baby Shower tablescape

Easy Felt Cloud Mobile For Nursery

Baby Shower Cloud Mobile rain drops

This mobile is bright and vivid and comes together in no time. Just think of the fun themes that can be used along with it! Pair this with some colorful bedding and it becomes the perfect focal point for a nursery.

The technique I used can be incorporated into many themes. To make a darling horizontal garland, string together circles of felt for polka dots, hearts, stars, or triangles (bunting).

    sheets of felt

    Felt Cloud Mobile

    Supplies Needed:

    • Felt, in assorted colors
    • Large piece of white felt (1 yard or so)
    • Thread
    • Scissors
    • Craft or Newspaper
    • Marker
    • Polyester Fiber Fill

    baby mobile paper cloud pattern

Start by making a pattern for your cloud. I used a large piece of brown craft paper and drew out a cloud form on the fold. That way it would be perfectly proportioned on each side.

    paper rain drop pattern

Cut out a rain drop out of paper to use for your rainbow colored felt.

    felt cloud and rain drops

You will end up with two large white felt pieces for the cloud, and a variety of felt raindrops. I added a small blue heart to the front of my mobile as well.

    small white felt squares

Next, cut out 5 (1") felt squares. These will be used to anchor each string of raindrops when sewing them later on.

felt rain drops in a variety of colors

Lay out your pieces and decide how many raindrops you want in your mobile.

    blue heart pinned to fabric

Sew your heart (optional) to the front and if you'd like to add a hanger to the back (string, yarn, ribbon), go ahead and do that as well. I added a loop of ribbon and sewed it to the back cloud piece.

    sewing machine stitching

To make each strand of raindrops, start with a white square of felt. Stitch through the center and back stitch at the bottom. DO NOT trim thread. Gently pull, releasing the thread, a few inches and begin sewing again on a rain drop (back stitching at the beginning and end). Continue pulling gently after each new raindrop is sewn to release the thread. When you reach the end of your garland, back stitch on the last raindrop and cut thread.

    colorful felt rain drops

I made 5 strands. 4 with 3 raindrops and the center strand with 4 raindrops.

red rain drop stitched to cloud mobile

Decide the placement of your strands and pin to sandwich them between the two cloud layers.

    stuffing inside cloud mobile

Pin all the way around the cloud, leaving the top open. Fill with batting or polyester fiber fill to the desired thickness. Pin top opening closed.

    felt rain drops

Stitch ¼" around the entire cloud.

    cloud and rain drops

I just love how this mobile turned out and think it will look darling with my upcoming baby shower tablescape and then in my daughter's room.

    April Showers Baby Shower Theme

    March 18, 2014 By Brandy 7 Comments

A fresh and beautiful April showers baby shower theme full of color and whimsy! Complete with rain boot centerpieces, a DIY cloud wall hanging and an umbrella diaper cake!

April showers cake and table scape

I love this time of year. Everything is new and  life is beginning for the plants and flowers around us. What better theme for a baby shower? Especially for one happening in the springtime. I've created an April Showers baby shower mini table-scape and it was so easy to do!

    April Showers Baby Shower Theme

There are a few  focal points, but I'd like to first draw your attention to my cloud mobile up top. It was fun to create and a very quick project that would not only work for a baby shower, but be great in a nursery too. You can find the tutorial here!

rainbow flower centerpiece and diaper cake

Diaper cakes have been done and over-done, but they are practical and can be a wonderful centerpiece for any baby shower tablescape. I like that they can easily be made in less than an hour. If you haven't ever made one before because you thought it would be a lot of work or intimidating, I am so happy to tell you that you have been mistaken! Diaper cake tutorial here.

    blue diaper cake

There are so many ways to embellish a diaper cake. Toys, blankets, baby care products or ribbon. I kept it simple with some nice thick grosgrain ribbon, flannel, and some soft soled baby shoes. All of my babies wore these soft leather shoes. I buy mine off of eBay for around $10 each and they last forever!

    paddington stuffed teddy bear

Paddington Bear is such a fun childhood book character. I thought he went nicely with the rainy April showers baby shower theme.

    rainbows with flowers inside

These rain boots made the perfect display for my fresh spring tulips and lillies. I put a plastic cup inside each boot, filled with water, to act as a vase. Originally I had planned to use my 5 year old daughter's new green polka dot rain boots, but she left them outside over the weekend and the puppy got to them. Such a shame! These are my 2 year old's boots and they were a great back up for my table.

    cake stand with cloud cupcakes

When making cloud cupcakes, a lighter-than-air frosting is a must! You won't believe how easy these lemonade cupcakes were to make and the frosting is to die for. I love all things lemon so I say that about pretty much anything that is full of that wonderful flavor. 2 ingredients is all you will need to make this light, melt-in-your-mouth, frosting.  You can find my recipe here!  Card stock cut out into cloud shapes and outlined with a marker made for no-cost cupcake picks.

    seed packets with name labels

There are many fun ways to say, "Thank You!". Mini potted flowers, a carnation stem, small jars of candies, etc. I thought I'd keep it simple with seed packs. You can find these all over the place and a lot of the time for less than $1. Wrap with a small strip of burlap and attach a tag with twine and you have the perfect little appreciation gift for your guests.

    Altered Casual Lady Knit Top

    March 17, 2014 By Brandy 13 Comments

    two knit shirts

For years I was intimidated by sewing with knit, but that was just because I didn't know the tips and tricks with working with knits and I didn't have a good pattern to follow. That isn't the case anymore! Everyone needs a basic knit top.  What's even better than the perfect knit top is the perfect knit top PATTERN. I can make whatever color or pattern I want! I purchased the Casual Lady Pattern last year and have made a few for myself and some for friends.

black and white striped knit shirt

Last week I altered the pattern to create a tunic length top. To do this I added 6" to the length. 3" on the bottom and 3" in the torso area. I also added a tie to the striped one for a bit more shape. To make the tie, I cut a strip of scrap fabric long enough to tie around my torso and tie in a bow. Then I sewed up the side to make a tube. I turned it right side out, folded in the ends and top stitched the entire tie.

    woman wearing knit shirt

I love how it turned out! It could easily be used for a maternity top with a few adjustments to the width.  This pattern works well with medium weight knits like the ponte de roma collection from  Girl Charlee. My favorites are the striped knits that they sell. And for an average price of $6/yard, I can make a top for myself in under an hour and for less than I could have purchased it for! My 8 year old was my little photographer here and neither one of us noticed that the lens was foggy on my camera until I was editing the pictures. Oops!

    stack of knit fabrics

I purchased this stack of fabrics from  Girl Charlee in the fall and have one yard left. The black and white print on the very bottom that is going to be a pencil skirt in the near future.

You can see some of the other fun projects I've made using their knits here.  From baby blankets to skirts and tops, there are so many fun uses for knit. It has quickly become one of my favorite fabrics to work with.

A quick and easy baby quilt tutorial for those who don't consider themselves to be quilters! This quilt comes together incredibly fast! Use pre-packaged bias tape or make your own binding. It's up to you!

I like projects that are quick. Projects that I can finish in less than a week,. Not something that would take weeks or months to finish. Maybe it's because I'm a compulsive person.

When I get an idea in my head I can't think about anything else until it is done. So the thought of hand quilting a large project makes me stress out. Because I would constantly be thinking about that unfinished quilt!

My friend has been coming over lately to use my machine and we've had a great time making baby blankets as gifts. For being a beginner, she has made some pretty awesome blankets. How cute is that bias tape that we sewed around the edging of this easy baby quilt? LOVE.

I saw these darling fabrics at Joanns and decided to make Ruby a little quilt.
It was a small quilt. About a yard and a half. Perfect for dragging around and snuggling in. She absolutely loves it and uses it every day. The best part? I made it in less than 2 hours.

The quilting isn't exact. It isn't measured.  It isn't planned out at all, and that's what I love about it. An easy baby quilt from start to finish. Fun wavy lines, from the top to the bottom, adding a fun design to the soft flannel fabric.

My grandma was an amazing hand quilter and wouldn't have machine stitched this little quilt. Her work was so detailed and perfect after years and years of homemade quilts. I cheated a bit, but because I machine stitched it, I actually finished it! And a finished quilt is better than one that was never even started!
So if you don't consider yourself a quilter, but would like to try your hand at making an easy baby quilt in a couple of hours, this tutorial is for you.

The smaller the quilt, the easier to machine quilt.

Sandwich a very thin layer of batting in between the top and bottom fabrics for your quilt.

I made a border around my main fabric with the orange chevron, but that isn't necessary. Simply using 2 pieces (one for the front and one for the back) of fabric works fine!

Pin your quilt all over. Safety pins are nice since they don't poke you as you sew, but straight pins are quicker and easier to pull out. I placed pins about 2" apart. You can also use a basting spray to hold your fabric layers together.

This keeps the fabric and batting together while you machine quilt and I set my machine stitch to 3.

Starting at the TOP CENTER of the quilt, sew a wavy line down the entire length of the quilt. Going back and forth, not worrying about being exact at all.I have a walking foot attachment for my machine that helps sew through thick fabrics evenly, but it doesn't work well for wavy lines. Since my batting was so thin my basic sewing foot worked fine, as long as I was diligent to keep my fabric pressed out flat and pinned really well. If you'd prefer to quilt straight lines, I'd recommend the walking foot. It works great.
Then  start back at the top and do it again a couple of inches to the right. Repeat this until you reach the right edge.

Then go back to the center and do the same thing all the way to the left edge. Wavy lines (going from top to bottom) a few inches apart all the way to the left side of the quilt.(pardon my inept computer skills above, but you get the picture 😉
The reason I started in the center and worked towards the edges was to keep the fabric from puckering up and ending up with a bulge in the center of the quilt. By working from the center out, I was able to smooth the fabrics as I went. If it was a bigger quilt I would have rolled the sides up like a scroll to prevent bulk while sewing, but this was so small that it wasn't really an issue.

I used both of my hands to flatten the fabric as I was sewing through the layers. When finished quilting, trim the edges to make everything even, and then bind it. You can use this fantastic quilt binding technique using fabric or bias tape. I had some pink bias tape, so I went with that.

When you are finished, you will have a darling baby QUILT that was just as quick to make, if not quicker, than a tied blanket....and personally I think it is cuter!
