    Not So Spooky Halloween Treats

Christmas is my favorite holiday to decorate for, but Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday to bake for. I love spooky-cute treats and there's just something about adding candy eyes to absolutely everything, haha. Before we get started let's talk about some of the items that I always have on hand to take an ordinary cookie to a themed cookie. Many of these items have a long shelf life and will work for making other kinds of holiday treats.

Helpful Ingredients and Supplies for Halloween Baking

    • Candy Eyes: The number one edible decorating item that you need on hand at all times arecandy eyes. I buy them in a variety of sizes (you can also get them in green or yellow for monster eyes)!
    • Lolipop Sticks: Having these around is super handy. You'll find all sorts of uses for them. I buy 6" sticks and then cut them down if I need smaller ones for another recipe.
    • Nonpareils Sprinkles: I love these cute colorful sprinkles. Super tiny and come in so many color schemes. Here's a fun one to use for Halloween baking.
    • Disposible Icing Bags: these bags are great for not only frosting, but melting chocolate. Cut the corner and use for drizzling or adding details like eyes and a mouth to your treats.
    • Shaped Sprinkles: When you want to add a bit of seasonal decor without getting too fancy, shape sprinkles are the way to go. I always keep these on hand to add to plain sugar cookies.
    • Melting Chocolate: (or almond bark): for melting chocolates I typically use whatever I have on hand. Sometimes chocolate chips, other times almond bark or melting chocolate wafers. I prefer the taste of chocolate chips, but they don't come in fun colors so for anything bright I use melting chocolate waters.
    • Cupcake Liners and Deep Dish Baking Liners: A collection of colorful baking cups is always a good idea. I especially like the deep dish liners for making deep dish cookies. Amazon is usually out of stock, but check back periodically. I've been able to buy them in purple and hot pink in the past. They are great quality.
    • Pumpkin Candies: mellowcreme pumpkins are the easiest way to decorate cookies and treats for Halloween. Candy corn is another option and after Halloween is over you can use any leftovers to make homemade butterfinger candy. I know it sounds crazy, but it's true. Super yummy. You'd never know it had candy corn in it.
