10 Minute Tooth Fairy Pillow Sewing Tutorial

    felt tooth pillow

A quick and easy tooth fairy pillow, in the shape of a tooth, made with felt scraps that you can make with your little one in about 15 minutes. Includes a free pattern.

If you like this simple sewing project you will love our heart plushies and felt bunnies!

Making a tooth pillow with mom is a fun little family tradition that we've had for the past 15 years. The little pillows we make hold the teeth nice and snug and are the perfect size to tuck underneath a pillow.
    felt tooth pillow
Mac lost his first tooth when we were on vacation in Florida and didn’t want to put it under his pillow until he got home and made a tooth pillow for it. He’s been waiting for years for the time to come when he would have a loose tooth and get to live through the emotional roller coaster of waiting for it to fall out. The time to have a tooth pillow of his very own. Everyone else has one and now he does too.

    Free Tooth Fairy Pillow Pattern

This little pillow is SO easy to make and comes together in about 10 minutes. You can add accessories or just make the tooth! Mac wanted a red toothbrush on his, and as you can see, some of the other ones we've made include flowers, crowns, and bows.
    3 tooth fairy pillows
The original pillow I made was for Dallin. He named it "Timmy". The shape has changed a little over the years, but it's essentially the same pillow.

You’ll need some white felt, craft eyes, hot glue (or craft glue) and colored felt scraps for accessories, you know, like high heels and a crown, haha. We glued the details onto the tooth pillow, but embroidery or hand stitching the mouth and eyes on works too.

You can add a tiny amount of pillow stuffing in between the layers if you'd like. We did this for a couple of them but left it out for the others. It just gives the tooth a bit more of a pillowy fullness.

Print out a copy of the printable tooth shape template and let’s get started!

Scotcheroo Bird's Nest Treats For Easter (Video)

scotcheroo bird's nests on parchment paper

If you love scotcheroos you'll love these scotcheroo bird's nest treats! Bite-sized, topped with chocolate eggs, and perfect for Easter! Make a batch and bring them to a spring gathering, they'll go fast!

You might also like our butterscotch bird's nest (haystack) treats, our carrot cake cookies, or our peeps sugar cookies (these are so fun and CUTE!).

Watch our step by step video!

    Scotcheroo Nests

Scotcheroos have been a favorite treat of mine for over 30 years. My grandma Eva knew how much my siblings and I loved them and would make them when we'd come to her house. Grandmas are the best. She taught me how to make them and I taught my kids how to make them. So easy and so SO good. It was time to make a cute spring version----bird's nests! I wasn't sure how they'd turn out, but the scotcheroo mixture was actually super easy to shape, making them the perfect bite-sized treat.

scotcheroo bird's nest treats on easter platter

This recipe makes 30 nests if you use a mini muffin pan or 15 nests if you use a regular-sized muffin pan. I like the mini version, and my pan only has 24 cavities, so I usually make 24 mini nests and 3 regular-sized nests (to use up the mixture). I topped mine with Cadbury eggs, but we also like Reese's Pieces eggs (they look just like these only brighter colors). Whoppers robin's eggs could be cute too.

Scroll to the end of the post for an easy-to-follow and easy-to-print recipe card!

    Scotcheroo Bird's Nest Treats Ingredients

    • 1 cup corn syrup
    • ⅓ cup sugar
    • 1 cup peanut butter (creamy or chunky)
    • 6 cups rice krispies cereal
    • ⅔ cup butterscotch chips
    • ⅔ cup chocolate chips (milk chocolate chips or semisweet chocolate chips)
    • chocolate egg candies

    hand holding scotcheroo nest treat

How To Make Scotcheroo Bird's Nest Treats

    • Spray a mini muffin pan with nonstick cooking spray.
    • Heat syrup, peanut butter, and sugar over medium heat until smooth and sugar has been dissolved. Remove from heat.
    • Pour peanut butter and syrup mixture over 6 c. of rice cereal. Stir until completely coated.

hand pressing scotcheroo mixture into pan with small glass

    • Scoop the mixture into the muffin tin using a medium cookie scoop (2 Tbsp. scoop). Press down with a spoon to flatten (a tiny measuring cup or shot glass works great for this).
    • Allow scotcheroos to cool for 15 minutes.
    • Remove scotcheroos from the muffin pan and place them on a platter.
    • Melt chocolate chips and butterscotch chips in a double boiler or microwave. I usually use my microwave and heat the chocolate chips and butterscotch chips for 30 seconds, then I stir and heat for an additional 15-20 seconds. Every microwave is different, my advice is to go low and slow. Short intervals, stirring until smooth and creamy. DO NOT OVERHEAT CHOCOLATE.

spoon with chocolate poured over scotcheroo

    • Spoon chocolate mixture over each scotcheroo nest. Add a few chocolate eggs.

ceramic bunny treat holder with scotcheroo treats

The chocolate will harden after it cools (refrigerating the nests speeds up the process). Store in an airtight container up to 7 days.

Carrot Cake Cookies Made With Carrot Baby Food

Last month I shared our recipe for carrot cake bars that are made with carrot baby food which eliminated the need to peel and grate cups of carrots. Our carrot cake cookies are made the same way! 2 jars of baby food poured right into the dough mixture give a beautiful orange color to the dough, moisture, and subtle flavoring. Traditional carrot cake spices like cinnamon and nutmeg are added to round out this delicious cookie.

I frosted mine and sprinkled them with chopped walnuts for a bit of crunch. You can also add a handful of chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts are my favorites for carrot cake) into the dough if you'd like.

These cookies are soft and fluffy and are iced in vanilla buttercream, but I've included recipes for both buttercream AND cream cheese frosting since cream cheese frosting is the classic choice for carrot cake.

This recipe makes 30 cookies. The frosting will set slightly making them easy to store and stack and the cookies will stay soft and fresh for 3-5 days if covered with plastic or stored in an airtight container.

    Oreo Brownie Cookies

Chewy, chocolatey, and a slight crunch. These oreo brownie cookies are delicious and so easy to make! You can make the dough from scratch using our double chocolate cookie dough recipe which uses cocoa powder and chocolate chips (you would use oreo cookie crumbs instead of chocolate chips and make an extra half batch of frosting), but I really love making these cookies with a brownie box mix. The flavor is delicious and it makes for a chewier cookie!

oreo brownie cookies on parchment paper

I like rolling the cookie dough in crushed oreo crumbs right before baking. It creates a crispy outer texture. You DO NOT need to do this though. If you prefer a softer texture, simply scoop the dough and bake it! This recipe makes 20-22 cookies.

    Oreo Brownie Cookie Ingredients

    Cookie Dough

    • 1 box fudge brownie mix (18 oz.)
    • ¼ cup melted butter
    • 2 large eggs
    • 2 Tbsp. milk
    • 15 crushed oreo cookies, divided

    Vanilla Buttercream Frosting

    • ½ cup softened butter (1 stick)
    • 3 cups sifted powdered sugar
    • 3 Tbsp. milk
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla

How To Make Oreo Brownie Cookies

    oreo cookie broken in half

    Crushed Oreo Cookies

Crush oreo cookies in a blender or food processor. You'll need 1 cup of crushed cookies for the brownie batter cookie dough and the rest will be used for rolling the cookie dough balls in and sprinkling over the finished cookies.

Whisk dry brownie mix and 1 cup of cookie crumbs together in a mixing bowl. Add melted butter, eggs, milk, and milk. Mix/stir well.

Chill the dough for 30 mins. in the refrigerator.

Scoop cookie dough balls using a medium cookie scoop (2 Tablespoon size) and roll in crushed cookies.

Place cookie dough balls on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. The cookies will spread slightly so only bake 6-8 cookies per pan.

Bake cookies in the oven at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.

Let cookies cool on the baking sheet 7-10 minutes before transferring them to a wire cooling rack. Allow cookies to cool completely.

vanilla buttercream frosting on electric beaters

Beat vanilla frosting ingredients together using an electric mixer. Spoon frosting over cooled cookies and sprinkle with crushed cookie crumbs. Store cookies in an airtight container or covered in plastic.

Scrap Fabric Flip Flops (Fluffy Flip Flops!)

Scrap fabric flip flops are so fun and funky. We call them “Fluffy Flip Flops”. One of the best flip-flops crafts for kids! A quick and easy summer camp project for girls and a great way to use up fabric scraps. Create patterns or tie the strips on randomly, the choice is yours!

pair of fluffy flip flops and pile of scrap fabric
Coming up with activities to do with the 8-11-year-old girls at our church is probably my favorite thing to do. I am the Activity Days leader for our congregation and get to hang out with these girls on Sundays to teach gospel lessons, and two Wednesday evenings a month to make crafts, play games, and teach life skills! Some of our favorite activities have been the Random Acts of Kindness Kits, Mother's Day Tea Party, and Nativity Wall Hangings. We are getting ready to take a break during the summer months so I wanted to have a little fun before we did that.

    Scrap Fabric Flip Flops

I saw a giant bin of $.97 flip flops at Walmart (you can usually find them on sale at Old Navy too) and thought it would be fun to decorate flip flops with the girls! I've done this with kids and teens before, but the results have been hit and miss. Hot glue never lasts very long, but the other types of glue take forever to dry and the kids end up making a huge mess. This time I wanted to simplify things. I've seen these funky flip flops made with yarn, strips of ribbon, or scrap fabric in the past and always thought they were a little crazy. They're a 90's creation, right? Fast forward to being in a time in my life of being a mom and having two girls who LIVE for fun and funky fashion creations, and I instantly knew that they’d be a hit with the girls at church too.

I requested the shoe sizes for all of the girls from their parents and got to work with Ruby to make an example pair. When we finished she looked down at her fluffy flip-flops and said, "Wow. I LOVE these." Mission accomplished!

8/2018 UPDATE: this activity was a HUGE hit and I've seen quite a few fluffy pairs of flip flops this summer at birthday parties, on cute little shoppers out running errands, and at the park. So glad these girls love this project!

    pile of strips of fabric

I sew. Therefore I have a stash of scrap fabric. A great project for a leftover fat quarter or two.

    Fabric Flip Flop Supplies

    • 1 pair of flip flops
    • fabric scraps
    • scissors

How To Make Fluffy Fabric Flip Flops

You'll need a pile of scrap fabric strips (about 1") wide and 8" long. We found 8" to be a good length for tying a double knot.

hands tying fabric onto flip flops
Start at one side of the rubber strap and tie the fabric on, using a double knot. You'll need about 20 strips per shoe if you want them nice and tight. You can also space them out a bit if you'd like.

pair of fabric fluffy flip flops
Step 3: Give them a trim when you are finished so that the strips are the same length and won't drag on the ground.

Won't these be fun fashion statements this summer? There will be at least a dozen pairs walking the beaches here in Virginia Beach! Here's to fashion-forward styling, haha!

Here are 30 summer crafts for kids that you'll want to check out!

If you love the fudgy, chewy Little Debbie cosmic brownie (or the Crumbl cosmic brownie cookies) you’ll love our cookie version. Made with a BROWNIE cookie as a base and coated with ganache. Delicious, smooth, and oh so easy to make.

    Cosmic Brownie Cookies

Our cookies are actually made with a brownie mix! You are completely welcome to make the chocolate cookies from scratch (and if you do, be sure to use my chocolate cookie dough recipe), but a brownie mix makes for the perfect semi-homemade chocolate cookie dough base and flavor.

Just look at that texture! So fudgey and chewy. The chocolate glaze will set up allowing the cookies to be stacked and stored.

    hand holding cosmic brownie cookie

    Cosmic Rainbow Sprinkles

The fun sprinkles are what set these cookies apart. Cosmic sprinkles are basically mini chocolate chips with a candy coating. Kind of like M&Ms, but in a chocolate chip shape! You can sometimes find them in stock at Walmart or Hobby Lobby, or Wilton, but I ordered mine on Amazon. You only need a few tablespoons for this recipe so the bag that I have is kind of an overkill, but they won't go to waste! I'll add them to the top of Texas sheet cake or our Texas sheet cake cookies! You can also use mini M&Ms, which are always in stock.

    Cosmic Brownie Cookie Ingredients

    bowl of chocolate rainbow chips

    Brownie Cookie Dough

    • fudge brownie mix
    • all purpose flour
    • melted butter
    • eggs
    • mini semi-sweet chocolate chips (you can also use regular-sized chocolate chips)

    Jalapeno Cheese Rolls (Video)

You'll love these jalapeno cheese rolls! Brushed with butter, stuffed with cheese and jalapeno peppers, rolled up, then baked until golden.

You might also like our garlic knots or our cheesy ranch garlic twists, or our homemade burger buns.

Watch our step by step video!

I might have a giant sweet tooth, but I'm always down for savory bread. Have you tried our sausage bread? Yum. My dad's jalapeno cheese bread recipe is one of our favorites and my kids love it so much that they make it on their own. We decided to put a spin on it and made rolls!

    jalapeno cheese roll on spatula

    Jalapeno Cheese Rolls

Our jalapeno cheese rolls are so cheesy and soft. Rolled up cinnamon roll-style, they and full of butter, cheese, and diced jalapeno peppers giving them just the right kick of heat. This recipe makes 12 rolls. Ready to make a batch? Let's get started!

    Jalapeno Cheese Rolls Ingredients

Start with a basic batch of dough. My favorite go-to bread dough is Amish white bread (recipe shared at the end of the post). I use it for so many recipes including cinnamon swirl bread and apple cinnamon pull-apart bread. You can also use a loaf of frozen bread dough (Rhodes).

You’ll also need cheese, jalapeño peppers in a jar, and butter. Of course.

bread dough, bowl of cheese, jalapenos and stick of butter

CAN I MAKE JALAPEÑO CHEESE Rolls WITH FRESH JALAPEÑOS?

You’ll definitely want the sliced jalapeños that come in a jar. They are juicy, already cooked, and much better for this recipe. Save those fresh ones for our baked jalapeño poppers or jalapeño egg roll recipe. Give the jalapeños a good chopping so that they are nice and tiny and will be evenly dispersed throughout the bread.

How To Make Jalapeno Cheese Rolls

Preheat the oven for a couple of minutes, or until warm. Turn the oven off. You’re just heating it enough to be a warm place for the bread to rise.

Mix water and yeast and sugar. Allow to sit for 5 minutes or until yeast looks foamy.  Add remaining dough ingredients and mix in a stand mixer or with a Danish dough whisk until evenly distributed and soft dough forms.  Knead dough on a floured surface for a few minutes until smooth and elastic.

Add 1 Tbsp. oil to the bowl, place the dough into the bowl, and turn the dough to coat on both sides. Cover with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and let rise in the warmed oven. Let rise for until doubled, about an hour.

dough rolled out with cheese and jalapeno peppers

Roll dough into a 12″x18″ rectangle and spread with softened butter. Sprinkle with cheese and chopped peppers.

Roll up, pinch dough to secure seam, and slice into 12 sections (dental floss works great for slicing).

    bread dough rolled into log

Place jalapeno cheese rolls in a 9x13 greased baking dish. Let rolls rise 40 minutes.

unbaked jalapeno cheese rolls in baking dish

Bake rolls at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

    Toasted Coconut Donuts Ingredients

    Batter

    • all-purpose flour
    • corn starch
    • baking powder
    • baking soda
    • salt
    • nutmeg
    • large eggs
    • melted butter
    • vanilla extract
    • brown sugar
    • *cream of coconut (or heavy whipping cream)two coconut crunch donuts leaning on each other

    Glaze

    • powdered sugar
    • *cream of coconut (or heavy whipping cream)
    • water

    Topping

    • shredded coconut, toasted

*You'll notice that I use cream of coconut in the batter and in the glaze.

What is cream of coconut? Is it the same thing as coconut cream?

    bottle of cream of coconut

NO! They are two completely different things. Cream of coconut is sweetened and looks like a thick syrup (kind of the consistency of sweetened condensed milk). It is mainly used in drinks like pina Coladas. We keep a bottle on hand to add to mixed sodas. My husband likes the delicious combination of taste mixing diet coke and cream of coconut. You can find it in the beverage aisle at your local grocery store. It also comes in a can. You can opt to use heavy whipping cream in the recipe in lieu of the cream of coconut, but I like the added boost of coconut flavor.

Note: if you use heavy whipping cream no modifications to the batter need to be made, and you can omit the water in the glaze. Just use the heavy whipping cream to thin out the glaze to your liking.

How To Make Coconut Crunch Donuts

    Donut Batter

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

Combine flour, cornstarch, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl.

In a separate bowl combine eggs, melted butter, cream of coconut, and vanilla. Add brown sugar and mix thoroughly.

Add wet ingredients to flour mixture. Stir until just mixed, it will be a thick batter.

    unbaked donut batter in pan

    Baking Donuts

Spray donut pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Spoon batter into a large gallon ziploc bag. Cut off the corner.

Pipe batter into the donut pan, filling about ⅔ full. DO NOT overfill!

    cake donuts on wire rack

Bake donuts for 10-12 minutes. Let donuts cool in the pan for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Donuts should come out of the pan easily, but if there is any resistance, run a toothpick or butter knife around the edge to loosen.

    Coconut Crunch Topping

    toasted coconut in blender

Spread shredded coconut in a single layer on a baking sheet. Toast/bake at 350 degrees for 5 minutes. At this point, the coconut will begin to brown quickly so watch it and stir every couple of minutes until it is golden and toasty.

Allow toasted coconut to cool then place in a blender or food processor and pulse a few times to break it up slightly.

    Coconut Glaze

    hand dipping donut into glaze

Whisk powdered sugar and cream of coconut together. It will be THICK. Add water, just enough to thin out the glaze to your liking.

Dip cooled donuts into glaze, on both sides, allowing excess to drip off, then roll donuts in toasted coconut.

donut coated on toasted coconut on rack

Place donuts on a wire rack. The glaze will set up quickly.

coconut crunch donuts on parchment paper

Doughnuts can be enjoyed at room temperature or heated for a few seconds in the microwave (for a stickier donut). Store finished donuts in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic to keep them fresh. Donuts are best eaten fresh but can be enjoyed up to 3 days afterward.
